2017 Mazda homogeneous charge engine

Featured Replies

I'll believe it when I see the cars on the road. Mazda has a history of abortive attempts at advanced technology engines in road cars.

It'd be great to see it but it's a difficult technology to implement: completely at the mercy of the electronics controlling it.

Accepted, but 2017 is here and I don't think they would want this published if there was no intent........it'd remain an in house project surely

I did like their 'SkyActive' tech claims which mostly came down to - "we made **** lighter".

But my FIL has just bought a Mazda 3 after years of being an Audi man. Audi "not good value now". So they're doing something right.

His biggest problem will be coping with boring reliability I imagine.

Out here the want it serviced every 10,000kms/6months, is it the same in the U.K. because it would be a marketing disadvantage.

That's competitive out here with the general competition, so I wonder why (profit aside) they think they can get away with it here, when we have less extreme temperatures.

Asian manufacturers look firstly to succeed in the U.S. market and thus their penchant for the lots of stuff look.
