Halogen to bixenon AFS

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a superb 2010 with halogen headlights.

I want to upgrade to a bixenon AFS headlights. Been searching on the forum but did not find all the infos.

Did superb had xenon and bixenon option? Or every xenon is a bixenon with AFS. I can buy headlights for a cheap price but the guy who sells them don't know if they are xenon or bixenon with AFS.

Is it possible to mount the xenon on a non xenon superb?

I've found on eBay a wire adapter for halogen to xenon conversion (for superb). But what is with AFS? Is it just plug and play or something else is needed?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers!

For any xenon installation, you'll need headlamps, bulbs, ballasts, controller and suspension ride height sensors. AFS probably has some additional requirements for sensors - it would have to be the OEM setup to work correctly with the other vehicle systems.

To do this properly will probably cost you a few thousand euro - the bixenon headlamp units alone are somewhere around €1000 for the pair (that's without bulbs and ballasts).

Only original setup is what I've think of.

I know that vag cars have a lot of equipment that is plug and play.

But doubt that ride height sensors are mounted.

Sorry I don't want to be rude so no offend. But you did not answer any of my questions, just typed about prices, bulbs and ballasts lol but I didn't meant it should work without bulbs. :)

To reform, can I bought used superb bixenon AFS headlights, ride height sensors. Mount it to a car, activate in software like some other equipment parts and get it working properly?

I've seen similar posts for other types of cars.  It usually comes down to it being cheaper and far less hassle to sell your car and buy one with factory xenons fitted.

My point was that xenon, and especially bixenon with AFS, is a complex system. It will take a lot of time and money to do properly.

Any mod is possible if you throw enough time and money at it but you have to consider how much of either you have. As Tropheus says, it may be more cost effective to sell your current car and buy one with AFS already installed.

Thanks Nathanio. I've got info that wiring should be mounted originally from a Skoda. It will be confirmed in a few days when I meet with Skoda electrician guy.

Chimaera. Please avoid this subject if you don't want to speak technical. If you read my posts again, I did not ask about prices. Please don't ruin me this forum on my first day at it.

If you know explain the sistem. Put some real info on the table.

I'm building race cars for years and I'm familiar with mechanics. Just bought my first vag car and I'm not "at home" with it.

Thought that I can find some real info here. Its not the problem to digg the service manuals to check and learn the sistems, and I will do that. But I was in thought that on a worldwide forum maybe someone did it previously, or here is some Skoda mechanic that is willing to share info. :)

Cheers guys and please wrote some info if you got it. :)

I appreciate you are new to the forum but to be fair the vast majority of people are here to help and you'll find that it is a very helpful forum generally but sometimes you'll need to be a bit more patient.  I think Chimaera was ust trying to point out a valid point and save you some cost.  While it might not answer your question specifically you'll find throughout the forum that members express themselves differently on threads and you might not get a specific answer straight away.  Its just a friendly tip for future threads, that's all.... :)

To answer one of your specific questions, the Superb II only had bi-xenons only (i.e. on both low and high beam).  Some of the Octavias had xenon only i.e. just low beam (I had low beam only xenon on a 2008 Octavia) but its always been bi-xenon with AFS on Superb II.

Back up with the attitude a bit: no need to get angry on your first day here :)

You should probably start here: http://www.realoem.me/Skoda/CZ/SUP/2010/632/R/9/971/971080

The central harness in areas 2 and 3 provide connections for the headlamps - it is different between halogen and AFS.

This is the specific harness for area 3: http://www.realoem.me/Skoda/CZ/SUP/2010/632/R/9/971/971084#13

Headlamps: http://www.realoem.me/Skoda/CZ/SUP/2010/632/R/9/941/941020

You are probably going to need to change significant parts of the central electrics harness to do this.

The BCM part number is different for vehicles with and without AFS so that will need to be changed, possibly with changes to the wiring.

Since AFS uses data from ESP, steering, suspension, transmission and lighting controls to determine headlight position, all of the control modules for these systems will need to be checked for compatibility. It may just be a coding change, or it may need a new control module and associated wiring.

For the suspension ride height sensors, Skoda OE would possibly be better, but the Kufatec kit may be easier to fit since it's designed for retro-fitting to an existing vehicle while the Skoda wiring would be designed to be fitted during construction of the vehicle.

The service manuals can be purchased from https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do;jsessionid=EA000E5DA0781BB34AC2C1BCE550BBA6.ASTPERWEU01

I found that a day's subscription was sufficient to get everything I needed for my car. An hour might be enough if you're not grabbing everything.

I'd suggest you do a search of the forums for this task too. Over time people move through and move on from the boards, and someone who has done this may no longer post here or even check in here. The scale of this retrofit means not too many people are likely to have bothered doing it, especially when it's not that hard to find vehicles for sale with the system pre-installed.

Hi,

Agree with you. Overreacted but I just didn't want that this topic became high price related topic :)

I'm a simple man, always trying to find the shortest path for resolving problems. :)

Thanks mate for the info. I've doubted that this headlights were bixenon AFS because of the price guy told me, 150e for both headlights with all modules, ballasts and bulbs. Maybe I needed to  wrote that in the first post, just to avoid "that will be expensive" :)

Damn, thanks mate. Now I'm owning you a drink! :)

We started hard, but that's what is making us a man.

And what is making us a human is your help at the end and my thank you to you. :)

Cheers and NHF!

I will go for conversion/retrofit. And I will upload a diy thread so that everyone could do that after. Just need to collect all the parts and info.

It's not that hard if you find the headlights for a reasonable price. I added factory xenons to my MY12 Octavia which should be pretty similar to a 2010 Superb electronically.
