Rear diffuser used as a brake...

Featured Replies

So due to a catalogue of errors I have nudged a black lampost, in the dark, in the rain, with people walking past. My own fault so no excuses ;)

Anyway, Ive bent in the black plastic diffuser as it meets the reflector strip, also cracked the reflector.

Im guessing the diffuser is a swappable part if I cant get it to spring back? Also, are the reflector strips simply stuck on with adhesive and can I replace them?

In before poor observations etc, I know already! :(

Yes it's a separate part. My dealer replaced it as someone went in to back of me, I would have replaced it myself but of course the person who nudged me paid.

I would assume the reflector is clipped on

reflector is clipped in, you can see how from underneath. If it helps look in my project thread there is a how to remove the rear diffuser.

Brilliant thankyou, will need to spurce one also. Found the diffuser on superskoda for less than 50 euros. Happy days.

No problems. Once you look underneath you'll see how to remove it.

Have you tried using a heat gun on the diffuser? If you've already ordered a new one you would have nothing to loose by having a go at fixing your old one and you'll have a spare!

Don't get the plastic too hot, mould it back into shape using whatever tool fits for the job (I used a wood chisel) and then smooth off using a Dremel or elbow grease with wet and dry. A light going over the sanded area with a heat gun will change the sanded plastic back to black, a bit of tyre dressing spray or equivalent and job done.

Diffuser comes off easy after the initial "pull" and when your using the heat gun make sure you support the diffuser to stop it changing overall shape.

Thanks for that post Banksie, very informative and useful. I was outside with the heat gun this morning with the intention of giving it a go in situ. Had some access issues but will defo try and sort it once I get it off. I need the reflectors off too which looks only possible with the diffuser off.

Thanks so much for the page copy out of the manual, saving it right now!
