Octavia mk2 Vrs - Intimitent Misfire and Poor idiling Upon start up.

Featured Replies

Hi all. Ive setup this thread to maybe get some insight to similar problems anyone else may have had or to help others with a similar problem on there mk2 vrs. I will also document my processes of fault finding. I own the 2009 2.0 TFSI Skoda Vrs limited edition #59, its the petrol hatchback version.

Ive owned the car for 2months now and im a so so happy with it!! Drives very well, and being a german built anythink fan and previous owners of the leon cupra and cupra r this car is great, and when needing to also concider a family of 5 and 2 large dogs while still wanting to have fun and stylish motoring i couldnt be happier right now. But enoughy of all that.....Snores Zzzzzz LOL... Im here because i have an intermittent Idiling and running problem and not as happy as i was. In the past week on 3 separate occasions upon starting the car i have been experiancing instant poor idiling. On the first ocassion after trying to settle the cars poor idle by gently reving it while stationary and with no joy, i decided id drive the car up the road to see weather it would smooth out (initially thinking the cold morning was the reason). But it didn't smooth out right away, infact it was worse and was a seriously juddery ride with alot of kangaroo action, and some not very healthly sounding popping noises coming from the exhaust. But then within a min or 2 of driving the issue started to cleared and then the car was running fine like nothing ever happened.... My first thought now apart from the cold was maybe ignition issues, as it felt like heavy misfire when trying accelerate, but yet when just sitting idiling from start up i wasnt feeling it as a misfire. But anyway 2 days after a perfectly running car and muiltiple commutes i then had the same problem reoccur, but it wasn't as bad and had pretty much cleared before i had even attempted to drive it off. And so i again i continue my commutes with a perfectly ok car until oh blow my hole yesterday it happened again, but this time i had the EPC light come up on the dash and it stayed on, and also the engine light came on flashed 3 or 4 times then stay off (EPC still on tho) So i attempt to see if the ruffness would clear and I took the car up the road again, not before I quickly turned round worried this might be alittle more serious now lights were showing. I came home turned the car off and went in doors, came back out 5min later started the car and everythink was perfect again with no lights on dashboard either. Now i looked at the owners manual at this point because of the lights on the dash and actaully see that skoda say the engine light which flashed at me actually relates to an exhaust relevent component fault, it was the only light which looked that way in the manual index.. So this made me think oh maybe its a pressure sensor or dare i say it an egr valve or somethink iffy and potentially expensive. Time now to get this looked at. So i have a mate ( everyone has a mate right lol) which works for a large motoring company and he has access to the next best thing to a dealership diagnostic machine and charges me a drink rate. The unit costs £15,000 and with the guys knowedge i feel confident its good enough that i dont need silly dealership prices to do this disnostic check.. The unit is all VAG ready blah de blah not sure of all details but know it suits this car lol, He has now tonight just plugges it in....

The results of the test are as follows in my picture.... Test was done today at my home... And the process of elmination begins. Ugh.
