Is this a puddle light indicator?

Featured Replies

I recently bought this wing mirror from a scrapyard on the basis that it's a straight swap (needed an o/s wing mirror case and indicator WITH puddle light) for my 2007 Octavia L/K.

Can anyone one tell me, before I dismantle the old one (damaged, but working) that this is the puddle light version, I've seen the tutorial on YouTube on how to install it and was a little confused as this one has no detachable connector, so I can disconnect it to reinstall?

If it isn't, the price I paid for it has covered the wing case and respray as it's like-for-like, so it's not a huge loss. Is there however, a site that sells genuine replacements that aren't main dealer prices, I've not seen much come up on eBay?

Thanks in advance.

That black plastic bit looks like the bottom of the mirror and to me it looks like it has a light fitting in it. So I would say yes.

But i'm a bit confused as to why you are asking if you have the light in front of you?

I'm asking because I'm concerned that if I remove my current indicator and it isn't a puddle light fit then it'll be a waste of time.

I expected there to be a clip on the indicator cable so I can reattach it to my car, but as you can see, it's all contained so I'm confused as to how to detach it in order to reuse the indicator?

I have auto-dimming mirrors so I'm not interested in the glass. It's just freeing the indicator if it is actually the puddle light version.

Yes it is the puddle light version.

The bulb holder you see is the puddle light fitting. The indicator is a tiny led that the black / white wires feed to.

This should have a tiny removable connector iirc.

Easy job to remove / replace.

A picture of the other side would have been good too, if there is a clear lens (i.e puddle light) then you have the right one.

This is the facelift mirror but the puddle light is essentially the same visually...

Snip the wires, solder them together with a bit of heat shrink, make a brew. Simples.

Or you can just fit the whole assembly?

Thanks all, I've cleaned it up and managed to detach it from the mirror as suggested.

It has the space underneath as Silver1011 mentioned, so assume its case closed?

Yep, case closed. You did good, definitely puddle lights there!

Not quite case closed!!

I took the old mirror casing off today which revealed that the connection on he old puddle light (top one in picture) is totally different to the one I wish to fit...

I wish I hadn't bothered as now the old indicator has decided to stop working (it was close to stopping altogether previously). :emoticon-0101-sadsmile:

Can someone tell me what type of puddle light my old indicator is, so I can search for the exact replacement? I'm reluctant to go to a dealership, due to costs and I'd quite like to fit it myself etc.

Help!

If it were me I would cut the connectors off and wire them together if possible.

Once you have done it there should be no need to dismantle again.

I guess the on from the scrap yard is from a slightly newer model, or possibly older. Mine is as your original one.

I purchased mine ages ago so have no details to hand, but will try later on if you have no more luck by then.

I guess that's the best thing to do, but given my limited skill set, I'd prefer just to replace it with a like for like replacement. With hindsight it would've been best to check this all first!

If if you can find out what part no. I'd need to search for or a accurate description then I'd really appreciate it. Or if someone else could advise or provide a link?

Just a thought, isn't there some sort of wiring loom adaptor that can be used to connect it?
