Your roof wrap stories needed

Featured Replies

Evening all,

My Sportline is currently with a local business for a Gtechnique coating and a roof wrap. I wont mention who it is with as it wouldn't be fair to them but having left the car with them first thing this morning I have only just been notified this evening that they wouldn't do the roof wrap as they wanted to be able to remove the ariel and therefore needed access to the Pilars etc which I think scared them a little on a brand new car. They are not prepared to do the job any other way for risk of Wrap shrinking. I have to say I am a little disappointed as they accepted the job last week knowing the car was new and having specified make and model I thought they would have checked what the job entailed.

My question to my fellow briskodians who have had roof wraps done is did you have your ariel removed? If not have you suffered from any wrap shrinkage?

Please pass this on to anyone you know who has wrapped cars as I would like to understand a little more about the process. Needless to say the other work I had planned for the car in for is on hold at present as I wanted to get the roof wrapped first understanding that would be the best route.

Thanks all.

I think the screen grab from a video of an S3 getting wrap shows the ariel removed so it looks like this is the way forward.

Hi Mark,

Yes I had my roof wrapped at a local specialist. There were a lot of national companies' vans in there when I called so they presumably have a good reputation.

Anyway, yes they did remove the aerial assembly and wrapped straight across before refitting. I was there when they did the work - they partially pulled the roof lining down and this allowed restricted access to enable removal. They couldn't pull the lining far, as this would possibly cause creases. End result was first class and I've had no issues with shrinkage, lifting, or marking.

For a pukka job, the aerial needs to come off. It may be worth you trying a different specialist.

Thanks Terry, its sounds like whoever they asked to do the wrapping job didn't want to mess about with a new car and wasnt sure how to get to the ariel fitting if they were looking at pillars etc. I am now in two minds as to go somewhere else as it doesn't inspire confidence. The detailer said they would call other people in the morning to see if they were available to do the job but I've lost a little confidence now. Shame you are not local Terry otherwise I'd have been PM'ing you for detailers of the fitter.
