I Have Scagged My Yeti Who Do I Allow To Respray It?

Featured Replies

I reversed into a short concrete post (painted green standing a few cm. out from a green hedge)

bother!! Now who should repair it? a Skoda paint shop or one my insurance designates?

Edited by gumdrop

Not good news :(

How bad is the damage? My wife reversed into our SMax on the drive and it was cheaper to get a local body shop to do it than go via insurance once excess and future premiums were taken into account. Regardless of who does it go for someone that comes from personal recommendation if possible, that's what I did and although it looked like a bit of a back street operation the job was spot on. Lets face it painting a car is painting a car... its the skill of the painter not where they work out of or whether they wear Skoda overalls.

Cheers

Given that the above is basically an accident management service I doubt they will be very interested where there is no second party to claim off. Which is how they make their money.

The claim would also still impact of future premiums.

Best to check all options first.

From that small an area, I suspect one of the "Scratch Repair" companies would be the easiest, especially as it is only in the plastic parts.

Did your reverse sensors work would have noticed the hedge

Ouch. I see why you're thinking along the lines of insurance now. I think the black bumper will be difficult to make good.

That stump of concrete post, was "invisible" due to its colour

and the sensors were busy telling me about the hedge.

Operator error in the end but how many people give where

they are going to reverse more than a cursory glance.

Definitely a job for a decent smart repairer. It looks worse because there's concrete transferred into the scratch. The damage is low down, so even an average repair would be hard to spot.

I'd cynically assume the "ensurance" works by billing main dealer retailer prices to your fully comp insurance.

Had a similar thing a couple of years ago when the car was 12 months old, obviously wanted a good repair and went thro insurance protected policy, garage advised to use by insurance co,ended up with new bumper"they said" but the repair was first class, that was Hartwells in Bath

I contacted my insurance and after ten to fifteen minutes was advised they use

a particular garage and they will contact me later today.

You don't usually have to use that repair company.

When my A6 was reversed into I wanted my dealer to fix it. Got a quote off them and then they dealt with the insurance company. Easy peasy and a first class job.

Too late now, but my advice would have been to try the local "Chips Away" franchise. Their results are very good and they will tell you if they don't think their method will work on your damage.

I don't like telling insurance companies anything unless I'm expecting a claim from anyone else.

This is based on experience with my wife's car a few years ago. Her car was parked in a public carpark and when we came back to it the rear nearside passenger door had a crease in it across a body line! Fortunately the offender had left all his details and admitted liability so we went ahead and informed her insurers. They said go ahead as it seemed to be a no blame claim. Imagine our annoyance when the renewal came to find it had been loaded because of the claim. When we queried it they agreed it was no blame and that they had recovered the costs from the other driver but justified the increase by saying that it made her more of a risk in the future!  Needless to say we found cover elsewhere but to this day we have to declare it because it's on the insurance database and am never sure we are still not being penalized. You can't get a quote unless you declare ANY incidents, blameworthy or otherwise.................

PS with regard to the sale of caravan, we did the same 1 year ago as you know and have recently replaced a 140DSG Yeti SE Outdoor with a 1.2 DSG SE Outdoor and only miss the extra "pull" when on very long motorway trips. As they don't often happen nowadays we are very happy with the compromise and feel more socially responsible into the bargain.

As I've said before "Go and try one"!

After 5 years some insurance are 3 years you don't have to notify insurance about any claims fault or none fault. I had the same problem someone bumped the rear and the number plate screw marked the bumper informed insurance next day called to say i am not making a claim but on renewal insurance went up as i could have made a claim It was about £20 a year extra and some would not insure me
