Bottom end knocking ??

Featured Replies

Hi all, i have a 59 plate superb 2.0l tdi, with 120k on the clock, full history, it developed a tapping sound and defo sounded like it was coming from the top end, the rocker was taken off and the cam was all scored so it was replaced, along with the followers, new cam belt and all put back together, but the damn tapping is still there, the injectors were swapped round but still tapping,. a guy who worked for peugoet said it sounded like a cam follower but i said it couldnt be cause they were all new,  so now were thinking it must be the bottom end, gutted, can the big/ little ends be done by dropping the sump or isnt it that straight forward and the engine needs stripping down. im praying thats not the case, any help would be gratefully received thanks,

At this age it's possibly/probably still a Pumpe Duse engine that has unit electro/mechanical injector pumps (one per cylinder) mechanically driven by the cam shaft (electrically fired). If wrong oil (needs anti foaming oil) has been used at some point these can wear badly - first symptoms - tapping
