6sp Manual gearbox oil change 140pd Scout

Featured Replies

Hi all, Have read on the forum that several owners have improved the notchy gear change of the 6 speed manual box with fresh fluid. Does anyone know which is the correct oil? I will probably use the Genuine to avoid confusion. Also I have also read that there may be 2 drain plugs on the 6 speed box, just wondering if this is correct.

Thanks,

            Mark

I find that using "Genuine" IS a cause of confusion    and so having lost it with VAG numbers (and dealers)  always use Fuchs'  and if you can't figure it out their staff are helpful and knowledgeable   or another I can recommend is Opie    re two plugs there are two parts to what is the front "transmission"   gear and diff/transfer which uses different oil  from memory Fuchs' SINTO  POID  also in the rear diff,    NOT to be confused with the HALDEX

Taken the plunge and gone for the genuine. I'm told the gearbox capacity is 2.3L, does anyone know if the box should be filled to overflowing or if I should add the exact 2.3L?

Cheers, Mark

The gearbox is likely to be tilted so if you fill it to overflowing it will be over filled. You need to measure how much you remove and add the same amount back in.

I'm assuming you car has a bmm engine and a jlr gearbox.

BMM Engine with KXU gearbox

6 spd not canted only 5 spd.

Fill until it starts to dribble out of the fill hole - won't take 2.3lts as always some left in it.

If you replace what you remove how do you know if it was already low.

If your really fussy ensure the car is level and refit fill plug after it stops dribbling.

Transfer box has a drain - iirc its a hex cap screw - fill point is above the o/s driveshaft difficult access.

Thanks for all your help chaps.

When i do my service I'm considering a gearbox oil change at the same time. It's been mentioned about Fuchs gear oil. I have used that oil before on my mk1 octavia and the change was lovely. I believe it would be different oil needed for the mk2. Does anyone have any info what Fuchs oil would be correct for 07 vrs tfsi?

Edit - fill point is just above the bottom of the driveshaft difficult to find even with driveshaft off.

Wow what a difference, had the gearbox oil changed and the clutch bled today whilst in for service. Feels like a new box. Wish I'd have had it done sooner.

cheers Mark

Correct oil was G052171A2 btw.

  • 2 weeks later...

I use thicker LiquiMoly 75W-90 for my 02Q HLV. Confirmed by oil lab...reduced wear for my driving style.

Hajes Racing replaces gearbox oil every fourth engine oil change (in my case every 40k km)

Watch out for correct amount of oil because VAG made some changes !!!
