Fabia 2 engines

Featured Replies

Any pointers from here to the various engines the Fabia 2 is fitted with?

I have been starting to look (again) at Fabia 2's (estates) and find the engine choices a little bamboozling, especially the diesels.

It's mostly town driving I do so I don't know if a diesel is a great idea if DPF's etc might play up. A small petrol might be fine but don't know if the TSI is reliable, it sounds a bit complicated! A nice bulletproof engine that's easy to work on would be good. I perhaps shouldn't rule out the basic 1.2L engines

Depends how new you want to go really.  I'm looking for a PD engined one for my daughter ATM, no dpf to worry about and are easier to work on than say the 1.6 cr engines.  I'm not a fan of 3 cylinder engines anyway so the 1.2 tsi engine seem quite reliable and would be my choice of a city petrol engine.  That's my tuppence worth anyway.

I'm a petrol/hybrid/electric head and not convinced that dieasel is a viable proposition in terms of emissions. Some cities are restricting diesels also diesels need to be pushed you need to be a commercial user or doing more than say 10k miles a year with more than 80% as motorway use then diesel is for you. Petrol engines have taken bigger strides in terms of efficiency and power for engine size. Look at the 1 litre in Fords, Skoda Octavia etc. Also unless you do high mileage another factor is that a diesel service can be more expensive than a petrol one. Diesel need to warm up before setting off whereas a petrol is start up and go without worrying wether the oil has circulated.

I have been diesel owner in the past with mechanical fuel pump running up to 100℅ veg oil / bio fuel which new common rail electronic injector engines can't.

The 1.6TDI CR in the Mk2 Fabia is a 4 cylinder diesels that you just start up and drive and they come in different power outputs and are the same engine.

The 1.2TSI is also a 4 cylinder and petrol and you start up and drive just the same. Also comes in different power outputs.

No need to buy a 3 cylinder petrol or diesel, (Mk3 Fabia has a 1.4 TDI 3 cylinder)

and no need to spend any time letting them run before driving off with either other than being sure the windows are de-iced.

Nothing complicated about a Mk2 Fabia 1.2 TSI or 1.6TDI engines you just buy what suits your needs.

PS

Skoda Main Dealer Servicing costs are the same for a petrol or a diesel, and as for maintenance costs swings and roundabouts,

and Independents servicing need be no different if a petrol or diesel.

Many thanks for input folks

What size of diesel is the PD one with no DPF, a 1.6?

I have seen there is a 75 BHP diesel and 105, is there another in 1.6 form too?

I do generally like the torque of diesel engines but it's not a deal breaker. Completely open to petrol too

The 1.4 3 cylinder is derived from the 4 cylinder 1.9 PD Tdi

Is this the non DPF one?

All euro 5 emission Diesels from September 2009 on have a DPF when they are leaving the factory.

As far as I know all diesels require a dpf since 2009, so pre 2009 vehicles may not have dpf.

The London Mayor is talking about the Increased Emissions Charge on Diesels that are Euro 4,  ie without a DPF.

So if Cities banning diesels in the UK is a worry you can maybe think that those before Euro 5 are the ones being considered first.

 The 1.4 and 1.9 TDI PD's don't have DPF's, EXCEPT the 1.4 TDI Greenline.

Cool thanks

I believe that all diesels from 2010 will have a dpf if you want no dpf buy pre 2010 model
