Anyone want to see inside a BWA?

Featured Replies

Hello everybody

After the balance shaft chain failed on my vRS BWA, I'm in the process of tearing it down and rebuilding it. This process is a learn as I go, because there's precious little useful information about actually taking them apart (plenty on the cam chain failure, and a bit about dead oil pumps).

My oil pump / balance unit survived the experience, but the crank sprocket got torn to bits, so sump off, timing case off, and doing other jobs on the way like replacing the thermostat, dismantling and flushing the whole cooling system, and polishing the various Forge bits.

Car is 2005 on 100k miles, running 230ish with Forge twin cooler kit, and possibly a hybrid blower. It was an abandoned barn find with dead clutch, and numerous other faults which I got for sixty quid. Spent £1200 bringing back up to scratch, service, changing belts etc, only for the chain to fail.

Anyone want/ need guide on stat replacement, alternator removal, front apron, sump, etc etc, just ask - most of the engine is spread across my bench at the moment, so happy to take pics and write a guide if required.

Onwards!

Even though it's unlikely to help me I'd definitely say do it :)

Go for it.
