Goodbye Superb :-( but....Hello vRS :-)

Featured Replies

Hi peeps,

Been lurking on the forum for about a year now after I got rid of my old 2.7 Bi-Turbo Audi S4 (for a number of reasons including really and I mean really really unbelivably bad / dangerous servicing from a certain NE stealer - who charged me a small fortune - mentioning no names), and replaced it with a shiney new Superb 2.5 Tdi Elegance in Blue with dark privacy glass.

First off I've got to say I was blown away by the amount of kit that the car comes with for the price! I priced up other options from Audi, Volvo ect and the amount of kit that you get with the Superb is well Superb. I still havent quite sussed out all the toys :-o Build quality is good, and I've had no problems at all with her over the past year - well apart from the hazard light button that did not work, then all of a sudden started to work just after I phoned up the dealer...

Only negative thing I can say about the car is other peoples opinions. Friends thought I'd gone crazy buying a Skoda, but they were soon won over once they saw it up close, had a ride and realised that it was all VAG equipment.

The biggest bit of weirdness thoght, is the way people on the road treat. Coming from the S4 to the Superb I can't count the number of times people have been up my rear, have cut me up and in general have treat me like a 4th class road user.

Anyway, having changed jobs and lost the long motorway travelling (Yay) I need a car that is more suited to town and city driving. Having had a look around at other brands, and now having a new found passion for diesel - I realised that the car for me was a furby vRS.

So, on Monday (all being well) I should be picking up an ex demonstrator Black vRS :-) and I'm sooo looking forward to it !! And after browsing the forums, looks like I will be in for some modding too...

I think (from trawling the forums) the best way to go is:

Bigger Brakes - have ordered a set from Steve @ golfturbo

Eibach springs

Cupra PD160 Trumpet and Pipe

Green Filter

Strut Brace

Remap

Is there anything else that you would suggest ?

Also what / who does the best online price for the Eibachs?

And can you get the Cupra bits online? ( I Know - I'm a lazy *****)

Also looking forward to meeting up with all you NE peeps :too :-)

God I'm sooo excited :D But I'll also miss the Superb (I'll post some piccies of her as she is a lovely looking thing - if anyone is interested I can tell you the dealer where she will be going to too)

Nice choice of car! You shouldn't get too mant people sticking to your backside when your driving it. If it ever happens just put your foot down, they probably won't be able to catch up with you and they'll get a lung full of soot too!

Yup, this is my first Skoda and every day I notice that other road users (usually busy Mothers  on the school run) are attempting to kill me, purely because I'm driving a Skoda. I've never experienced this phenomenon before in many years of driving.

Superb to Fabia! You'll soon notice that size does'nt matter :D

It must be that everyone assumes it is some doddery old fart (no offence I'm no spring chicken) driving and want to get past. I love travelling in 30 and 40s within the limit with someone up my a*se and then reach the 60 limit. Let them start to overtake and then wave bye bye as you put your foot down. I do agree that women tend to hug your backside more than men ;) (what have I started).

Any pics of the superb ?

I also noticed the change in attitude from other drivers when I changed from my Audi. People see a Skoda and just pull out in front of you! I've sort of got used to it now, but it was shock in the first few weeks! One benefit I have noticed is that if you are in the mood to make a bit of progress everybody lets you get on with it, as opposed to when I was in the Audi!

Ever tried going past someone in a Rover 100 ;) - nuff said :P

(and yes I was going faster heheee).

I've not had much trouble getting past people generally, removing the vRS badge from the rear has stopped most of the silly tailgating types that only do so when they're able to (i.e. when they've boxed themselves in, trying to undertake ;)) - then drive away from them without even changing gear really is quite a sad but fun enjoyment :D

Interesting switch of cars, I find the Fabia vRS is perfectly able to cruise on motorways as well though, doing 100 mile round trip daily without any trouble.

The equipment levels in the Fabia will be a lot less than in the Superb though, different class of vehicle as it is.

From the kind of stuff you're getting you'll end up with a pretty nippy car, whilst being able to maintain decent fuel economy if you drive it sensibly :D (it may happen :P ).

People will always pull out in front of other people as there is a large proportion of people that just looks to see if there is a gap, making the assumption the gap won't decrease whilst they weave over to the OVERTAKING lane. No attention being paid to the speed difference of course...

Please make sure you run in the brakes properly post-upgrade though :)

Hi Andy,

Yeah I'll get some up here tomorrow as I've got no piccies of her yet either  was going to take some yesterday when I removed my Snooper (S6-R Neo up for sale if anyone wants to make me an offer before it goes to Ebay) but it was absolutely Scruffy.

Will wash and photograph

lol i have a story bout that wasnt a rover 100 though it was an old colonel type in a rover 400 (saloon) driving at 40 mph on a road in scotland that has the odd dual carraige way sections any way i over took him in the Fiat Punto i had at the time (2001ish) and as soon as i did he speeded up and followed me i was pulling into the next town and he followed me in there and as i parked up he came over to me with a face as red as my car.... basicly saying he fought the italians in the last war and didnt take kindly to being overtaken by an italian car and that i had no road manners and did not know my place on the road....

Yeh, that reminds me, has anyone ever noticed those 'al codgers that furiously flash their head lights and vigorously shake their fists at you after you've just safely overtaken them? They usually have their blue rinsed bird accompanying them. What's all that about? Will I be like that when I get older

Yeah I get that a lot - usually in 60 mph zones followed by 30 mph zones. I overtake the 40 mph-going car, get a lot of noise/flashing lights/gesturing. Then when I slow down to the 30 mph as indicated they catch up doing 40 mph... And get annoyed with you. The best one was they overtook me at 40+ mph to get done for speeding  schweeeeet :D

Hi Peeps,

Well they came and dropped off the Fabia yesterday and took away the Superb...

Oh MY GOD !!!

After having a "real" blast out in it last night, you would have needed to give me surgery to get the grin off my face. I can only describe it as way above my expectations AND flicking to see what my MPG's was....I was giggling like a little school girl... 40+ and I was hammering it :D

The wife also loves it (I've never seen her drive like she did last night) and has decreed that it is now her car and I can use her corsa

Getting ready to go out for a meeting now and god I'm hyper - cant wait to get back in it. Its been a long time since I've had that feeling! My old S4 brought a smile to my face, but there is something about the vRS that is grin generating :-)

It's got that effect a little ;)

Now you'll just have to swap the corsa I suppose, to avoid having your wife 'borrow the vRS' :D :D

Glad you're enjoying it, must admit although you kinda get used to the effortless speed it's still fun  31k miles done now :)
