SWMBO went in and had a look at the ST this afternoon and was very impressed  She agrees it's alot more inspiring to look at than the vRS.

Interestingly have just done an online insurance quote with direct line:

Fabia vRS

Seen from a continental perspective, your insurance system is very amusing! I'm glad that I don't have to worry about that when considering new cars.

Having said that, here's my take on a similar journey through the current warm-hatch offers - which has ended up with me deciding to get a Fiesta ST as well.

First of all, it will be a 'second car' next to the Octavia which we'll keep as a private car, with the ST becoming the new company car. The company is happy to pay petrol bills instead of diesel bills, so that allowed me to want a N/A car instead of another turbo. I was looking for a quick and nippy car that's fast around corners, and which allows for gentle in-corner throttle adjustments. You just can't get that with a turbo. So having both a turbo and a N/A car will provide a nice mix.

Second, I do agree about the harsh and nasty engine noise. That is my main criticism of the car. That's why I will be giving it the full Milltek/Pumaspeed treatment, which will transform the engine, give it even more acute throttle response and some more hp to boot.

Third, I'm not getting the stripes... The Skoda's wolf-in-sheep's-clothing effect has been very valuable to my pockets the past few years, so I'll be going the same route with the ST.

And finally, the Dutch pricing is totally different. Here, the ST is priced very, very competitively - 5k euros down on the (overpriced) Fabia vRS, 7k down on the Clio. It's virtually in a class of its own...

Furby vRS with Silver paint, Cruise control and Sympathy player = £11593.97

Fiesta ST with silver paint, climate control, mp3 port = £11477.66 (bearing in mind it comes with half leather and in dash 6 cd changer as standard)

This is from coast2coast cars and it is for brand new not pre registered models

Apologies for the long post but my local Ford dealer has really wound me up now.:irked:

Today I attempted to book a test drive in the ST.

The guy said that he needed to ask me some questions first (the same guy who made the comment about Skoda when I was in there last).

He asked me whether I was going to be trading in, cash buyer or need finance.

I told him that as he knew I was looking at two cars, one of them being the Fiesta, and that all I wanted to do was test drive them both before I went any further. I said that until that point how I was going to buy the car wasn't relevant. I said, however, that he knew I was genuine and not a boy racer wanting a quick blat in a car he couldn't afford.

He then said that he needed to know because he could do me a deal on one they had in stock. I told him that I wasn't interested in his stock cars as they weren't the colour I would want and didn't have the extras. Besides, I said, I didn't want to buy until May but was checking things out in advance.

He then told me to come and book a test drive in May!! They have no demo, only unregistered cars and he didn't want to put any mileage on them (I can understand this).

I then asked him what the waiting list was for a Fiesta ST from the factory and he couldn't tell me. I told him that the reason I was asking this was because I didn't want to wait for a test until May, decide I wanted a car, then have to wait 2 or 3 months to get it!

He told me to come back in May.:(

I now need to find a dealer whon has a demo Fiesta ST. What apain in the a*se!

Sounds familiar  When I did a looksie on the internet brokers I was looking at a 10 week wait for the spec of st I wanted. IT depends really on what's going on in the factory.

He told me to come back in May.:(

!

Cheeky bleeder! you should have thanked him for his most excellent help and tell him you will show him the ST you buy from another garage as soon as you get it.

You would think he was flogging that lovely RS4 not a bleedin Ford Fiesta.Rubbish salespeople ruin a garage (thats why VW won't see my pennies)

polar ford have an st in for demo not much help but they are the only ones within a big distance that had one in when i tried to find one

The Ford dealer in Tamworth, Staffs offered me a Focus ST test drive within a minute of walking into the showroom, as did the Nissan dealer with a 350Z. Both were aware that I'm not in a rush to change my car.

I'm 25, so you "older" people shouldnt have a problem ;)
