Clean the rear camera

Featured Replies

I am one of those who does not like to use the rear window wipe. But as I have understood this only opportunity to get flushed Rear camera.

Is it anybody who can some trick to avoid this, that get washed the rear camera without having to use the wiper behind? Is there a chance to pull out a fuse or something to the rear window wiper? Or is the fuse also to the rear camera?

Take a wet wipe. Walk to rear of car. Wipe camera. Dispose of wet wipe. Get back in car. ;)

Pampers or Huggies ? Scented or not ? Normal or sensitive ?   so many options....

I have been looking for a coating to make the lens more 'slippery' to road crud but with it being a plastic lens, chemicals like RainX will damage it.  For now it's out with a microfibre cloth.  I have to say my S3 Estate is the worst car I have ever owned for getting cra road dirt on the back!

I didn't want to get too detailed Rick. I agree Felis, mine gets really dirty. It does annoy me when the rear camera is dirty just from even sitting there parked for a few days.

I've had two types of rear view camera in the past; one which was mounted just next to the reg plate bulb, which was always exposed to crud from the road and it was as much use as a C0*k flavored lollipop.  The other (much better) design was having the camera hidden behind the rear boot lid badge.  When reverse was engaged the 'VW' badge would tilt open to reveal the camera.  Simple and very effective.   This was on a Passat CC.

Unless the camera was hidden/protected then I wouldn't spec it on a car.

The camera for the Octavia III FL has a nozzle on it which sprays it. Seen it retrofitted in Norway.

Its not possible I have found out as I have just retro fitted a camera in my mk3 Superb. there is a y connector the pipeline that enables the water to spray on to the rear screen and the camera. No doubt it could be done with a separate pump and wiring and switch, but it would be an awful lot of work.

OP says he doesn't like using rear wash/wipe why?

do you just leave your glass dirty?

Hi

Where can I connect the pipeline and the y connector? I retrofitted a camera with washer, but i couldn't find the waterpipe...

I do have rear wiper (the water comes from the 3rd break light)

Thanks in advance...

You mean alcohol wipe, wet wipes leave awful smears, just try using one on your car glass or bodywork

What's behind you does not matter - unless it's the rozzers:bandit: !

Personally I have to have clean / clear glass all round & estates are the worst for having dirty rear ends:giggle:

Because estate rear washers spray mostly outside where the wiper clears, it's hopeless!

When I notice that the camera image is blurry I just wipe my finger over the lens when I leave the car or before getting in, its a tiny spec of grime and I certainly would not pollute the planet with a wet wipe.

As for a washer jet, even a Karcher will not remove road dirt from windows without using a sponge or cloth, how well could you see out of your windscreen if you used the washers without the wipers?
