Auto headlights

Featured Replies

I have now fitted a auto headlight switch and have had auto headlights added to maxi-dot but still they are not working why? Can anyone help? I am in Spalding early March if there is a local member there that can help?

Got an autoscan from VCDS?

What exactly did you fit/have fitted and what behaviour are you getting now?

Ch / Lh appears on maxi-dot and I have purchased a genuine auto light switch but still nothing is working

When you say 'nothing is working', I assume you actually mean is the headlights don't turn on when it's dark and it's in the auto position but it's fine in the sidelight/dipped/fog positions?

Did you fit the headlight switch and did you check all ten wires are there?

I assume being an elegance you already have a RLS and auto-wipers?

Do you have a VCDS autoscan?

I think he means have you got a rls.

Simply installing a switch will do nothing as it needs sensors to function

Hi I have a sensor behind my my mirror and have maxi-dot, so I thought it was just a case of getting a genuine auto headlight switch from my dealer and getting my maxi-dot coded by VagCom and everything would work how wrong. With the switch in auto while driving the main headlights are on and the DRL's are off in the off position the DRL's are on only and if I leave the switch on when I turn off the ignition and remove the key the lights just go off? Please can someone help us out there?

I'm trying to...

If you want help, then as requested, please do the following:

- Post an autoscan from VCDS/vagcom

- Count the number of wires in the connector to the headlight switch

Did you check that all of the connections are filled in the connector behind the headlight switch?

It's possible that there is one missing that needs adding to the loom.

I think for auto headlights to work there needs to be 10 wires, but don't quote me on that.

Its more than likely a missing wire ive put a few auto switches into octavias and have yet to find one with all 10 wires. Its an easy job get a repair wire from the dealers cut it in half plug it in at both ends and add some wire in the middle to join both ends. The repair wire is just a bit short thats why it needs cut.

If your going to put the wire in it goes from the only spare space in the plug for the headlight switch and it goes to the black plug pin number 20 in the bcm which is above the accelerator pedal. Cant remember the repair wire number but if you phone the dealers they can give you the part number.

Sorry I haven't got a VCDS / Vagcom. It was coded by a garage.

Might be worth either asking the garage for an autoscan or finding a local member with VCDS to do a scan for you.

In the mean time, you should count the wires behind the light switch. It's a five minute job and will clear up the most obvious cause.

It may depend on the model year (mine is 2010), but I had to put the extra wire in on my 1.4 Tsi DSG Elegance (which is the same engine/spec/gearbox as OP).

If it is a genuine switch from SKODA parts it should fit ok with no other modifications (for this model)...

My friend how many sensors you have behind the internal mirror?

Unless the tenth wire isn't fitted to the BCM...

thats exactly what they should do. but when in auto and you turn off ignition they should stay on for 30secs when its dark.

*That's what I thought when I first read it but it depends if the op is talking about daytime or night time driving.

They shouldn't be on if daytime I believe??? (someone correct if wrong) The auto part is to switch them on at a certain level of diminishing external daylight, or going under bridges. (that is how the A4 auto's work anyway).

And is the 30secs the coming home setting? (as is the A4).

In auto my drls are on all the time except when the headlights come on they go off. 30 seconds is the coming home feature but only works when lights in auto mode.

But the op says his main headlights are on in auto. If he is talking about driving at night then it is exactly what they should do, as we both say, but if he is talking daytime driving then not exactly what they should do.

I'm assuming he is talking daytime driving and suspect (as others mention, including the op) that they are not working correctly and assume that the auto is working as if the switch is just in the 'on' position.

Yep he needs to specify day or night and I'd say he might have the wrong mirror. Let's wait and see.
