LED Indicator problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is not sort of a Skoda issue but I need your help! I changed my indicators and reverse lights to LED's in my Scout and they're great. My brother in law bought the same ones for his Toyota Hiace Van as they are the same fittings as my Scout. The issue is, when the hazards are on, the indicators are fine but when you do a standard left or right signal, they flash at about 100mph! Has anybody got any ideas? It's crazy how they are fine on hazard but not on standard turn signal.

Thanks,

jonny

Just to clarify, it's the Toyota Hiace that's have issues but you posted in the Octavia MK3 section? Probably worth asking a mod to move it somewhere more sensible.

I don't know anything about the Hiace but it's not uncommon to get hyperflash with LEDs, common solutions are:

- fit load resistors

- replace the flasher unit with one designed for LEDs

- recode the car for LED lights (not all cars support LEDs)

Easiest thing is to replace the flasher unit (if it has one), otherwise use load resistors :)

Had exactly the same when I fitted LED indicators to a Citroen C1, and had to fit resistors in parallel with the bulbs to solve it as the flasher isn't a separate unit but integral with the instruments.

On asking on the owners club website I was told that the bulbs are monitored when used as flashers (hence with LEDs they flash fast to indicate a fialed bulb not drawing enough current) but that when used as hazards they flash at a fixed rate as the bulb current isn't checked.
