Limiting tailgate movement

Featured Replies

Not quite in the Boss Fox league as far as modifications go, however I'm pleased with this little addition to the Yeti

A bit of string...

Would it not have been easier to move the roof box forwards 6”?

Might have to try something like this on my fabia. When i've got the bike rack on, it catches the boot spoiler and I've opened it so many times forgetting about it and scratching the paint!

It would be, but the box is as far forward as it will go unfortunately.

Having checked, the box can't move either forward or back - it's as far back as it can go on the front mounts and as far forward as it can go on the back, and the official Skoda roof bars only fit in one position on the rails so I've no flexibility there either.

It would appear the official roof box, rather than the Halfords Exodus 360l (made my Thule apparently), is shaped appropriately for it not to be a problem

the earlier longitudinal bars had 3x captive nuts at the rear mount, maybe an extra pair front and back could be fitted to facilitate a small forward movement!

As long as the 3rd captive nut is nearer the front of the car then that would probably be sufficient, but in typical fashion, I've got the later bars.

I could try and source some early bars (modifying the late ones would be tricky), or get a Skoda roof box, but for now I think I'll settle for my more cost effective string based solution.

not too difficult really, just need the spacing, a clearance hole and the inserts insert from the outside, then just bush them out using a high tensile hex headed bolt and some washers to spread the forces - a local small engineering outfit would probably fit 'em for beer money!
