Yes Awayoffski, we Brits are seen as being more gullible than most others around the world.

Statements like this do nothing to help your case.

And are quite insulting.

  • You seem to be taking this to the extreme.   You did the right thing, got a 2nd opinion when confronted with a big bill, you complained to the Manager.   They don't care about it,

Really?, his case will be based on facts.  His opinions on Skoda UK or CZ or the VW Group do not make a difference to the case.

I will consider putting a review on Simpsons Section.

Given the stated facts, and SUKs apparent lack of interest in investigating what seems to be a serious problem with this dealer, I can fully understand the OPs frustration. I have also had experience with a dealer (not Simpsons) attempting to treat a customer as a "mug" who has no technical knowledge and who can be fobbed off with incorrect information.

A bit of interesting research would be to see which countries VW are compensating and those they are not.  Comparing like with like, I wonder if the UK will be the solo loser.

That's very kind of you.

I am confused what the piece of A4 paper was doing there in the first place??????

I think it was just a prop for their smoke and mirrors attempt to defraud the OP of his money. I would be confused if they tried to tell me that there was a sheet of A4 paper down by the lambda sensor. If I was sceptical of their claims maybe they would have brought the hole punch and stapler to prove their claim

How the sheet of paper had got down in the lower engine is something I can’t explain.  The only time I’d been under the bonnet was to check fluid levels before going on an EU driving holiday. The paper was discoloured, but the printing on it could still be read, and clearly it had not been on fire as the Service Manager claimed.

Maybe I should give a bit more history.  I had previously bought two nearly new Fabia’s off Simpsons, but not this present one.  I had tried to buy it off them, but when they asked me to come down to organise a deal, they wasted my night by only wanting to sell me a Lease Plan and other than that they had nothing organised.  I then went to another Skoda Agent.

When I phoned Simpsons about the Fault Warning Light I explained it to the Service Manager that I had not bought the car from them and why.  He immediately said, Then take it back to where you bought it from.  I then asked if it was right that I should be able to have Warrantee work done by any Skoda Dealer, he then relented and booked me in.

Then it is as previously explained. I must say that when I visited Simpsons to buy the new car I'd found that nearly of the old Staff I knew were no longer there.  I'd previously had a good relationship with many, including the previous Service Manager.

I don't think the sheet of paper had ever been near your car so would worry about it. Like I said it was just something to wave about in front of your face. Simpsons sound a right bag of ****, just avoid them from now on.

I had similar problems with the Skoda main dealer for Leeds but unfortunate that they also own all the other Skoda dealers in the surrounding areas too so have a monopoly in the area. I took my business to another brand and glad to be rid.

I will leave it for a while and see what develops from The Skoda Outfit - Mafia - if anything.  All I wanted at the start was a sincere apology! I even even emailed Neil Simpson to say I did not want anything drastic to happen to any staff.  I tend to think we develop a personal relationship with our car, but mine has been ruined by those behind Skoda, who one would think would want to promote it.  When I now look at my Fabia think it as being something irksome.  That's a great pity.

Since the A4 paper is still legible, what does it say?

I think it is probably the lease document that failed to get signed.............

And they wipes their bums with it, before producing it as evidence, Lol.

Is it conceivable it was some debris from the road that got lodged up around the lambda?

The OP says he was on a Euro road trip, so there is a chance he may have run over some paper debris.

I've heard about plastic bags getting stuck on catalysts or other parts of the exhaust and burning.

Right, don't think you'll get very far with small claims becasue you haven't suffered any substantial losses really. You can try to claim for time, fuel, wear and tear but that's not going to add up to a whole lot really. Certainly not proportionate to your feeling of injustice.

What you're really dealing with here ('allegedly' since I personally cannot possibly determine the truth from a forum post) is an attempted fraud. This is no different to ne'er do wells saying you have "problems with your roof" and it's just 'lucky' they were in the neighbourhood to help.

So good old fashioned fraud.

You can't nail them for fraud only trading standards can do that (not plod either). So back to TS and chase them for a response. If they don;t get back to you write a letter to your local councillor as ask them to chase it for you. Generally they will and it'll grease the wheels. It may be that TS think there isn't sufficient evidence to do anything but they will record your claims and if a bank of evidence build they will investigate.

The Service Manager held the paper away from me so I could not have access.   However, when Neil Simpson became involved, he eventually phoned me to say he could read a date on the paper of ( I think) -- July 2016.  I took delivery of the car 22 January 2016.  Neil then said this date meant I was being dishonest and knew where the paper had come from.  He still was in denial that the paper had not been on fire or that their claim of a fault was bogus.  When I took my car to the Second Skoda Garage and they could not find any fault with the Lambda Probe, I said I had been told the it's wiring harness had been melted by a fire.   They went away and then later called me into the workshop and showed me the wiring harness.  I felt at it and said it looked brand new.  They agreed and then said the sheathing was heat proof anyway.

When I burn a piece of paper, there's not much left cept maybe ashes, which if in the engine bay, I would have expected to have all blown away after even the shortest drive.

If someone produced a piece of A4 paper to me and told me it had been on fire, I would assume they must think I was really gullible.

Tilt, I was initially fooled, but then realised, as you say, it was suspect.  That's why I took it elsewhere to get my suspicions looked into and the lie confirmed. Like some posts say, we tend to believe such people automatically. It is my worry that they may have done this to many other customers.

You are ClunkClick and I claim my £5 :D

After you thought, could I ask for some more advice from you more experienced members.   If I placed this information on the Skoda Agent's section, would a heading and a link to this section of posts be a good way?  Then they'd see all the views.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/64141-simpsons-skoda-preston-ltd-preston

Just post it as the next post for that dealer.

A Mk3 Fabia owner posted last week.   Just post your experience SIMPSONS SKODA PRESTON & your dealings with the Employee & then Neil Simpson.

That will let others form their own opinions, and maybe SIMPSONS SKODA PRESTON will want to reply putting their side of the story.

Or maybe not....
