Rapid Feb 2017 - a few questions

Featured Replies

Hello,

Just got my Rapid SE L and very happy so far.  I have a couple of queries that I am hoping someone can help with.  I have had a search but could not find the information I was after.

The car came with the Amundson unit which is working great.  I have tried however to update the maps.  I entered the VIN into the website and was told there were two updates possible, one was the version of maps that came on the SD card while the other appeared newer.  I followed the instructions and could not get it to work.

  1. Tried using their downloader, emptying the CD card and copying the files over, when I put the card back in the unit it loaded but would not show any maps for the UK.
  2. I then copied as much of the original over that I could, the original file coming in at about 12GB and the new update about 5GB so I was not convinced it would work.  This still did not work and would appear that there was no UK mapping.

The version that came with the unit works fine, that version is ECE1 2017.

Any ideas as to how to get this to work?

Also the Amundson does not appear to come with DAB, is this correct, the Bolero unit in the Fabia does come with DAB and I had naively assumed that the Amundson would as well.

I am going to go back to the dealer and ask how much it would be to activate Smartlink, having had a proper play with it in the Fabia first.

Finally I have a question about the service interval that the dealer did not fully answer and before I go back I would like others opinions.

The car is set up to use variable servicing intervals, code QI6.  What are the benefits, drawbacks of this?  Is there anything I should be aware of and is it worth changing it to fixed service intervals?

Thanks for the help with these things.

Regards

Rich.

From previous threads smartlink cannot be dealer activated.

Variable servicing is for high mileage users. I thought it a good idea but a new turbo at 25000 miles says no it isn't. You can opt to change to 12 month/10000 miles instead

The previous 2012-15 Amundsen is expensive to update so I haven't tried. There are threads on here telling how to update that one and the newer 2016 onwards one.

Again the 2012 to 2015 Amundsen has DAB

And so did the newer version I tried in a SEAT.

Thanks for the reply.

I read the thread in the Octy forum and assumed that as that could have Smartlink dealer activated it applied to the unit and not the car.  Oh well.

I was thinking about changing the interval but wanted to some more info.  I am not a high mileage user and so 12 months/10000 miles seems the way to go.

Anyone have any idea as to why Skoda set the default as variable?

Rich.

Its about oil specs. If the car has long life oil in its QI6. When you have a first servicing tell them to change to annual. They should reset the service counter for another 10k miles instead of 18k on the long life one.

I honestly think the dealer should sort the nav system. PDI should include latest updates. I never met a satnav that was logical or easy to update.

Regarding the DAB... have you switched the freq from FM only to DAB ?

I only have the choice between FM and AM when I click to change the band, there is no option for DAB.
