New Superb Owner and Questions

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a 2008 Superb 2.0l TDi Auto Elegance model and have a few questions as I am new to the Car and haven't been able to find any resolve in the Car with Handbooks to hand....

1. The Car has Manual Powerfolding Mirrors, is there a way to turn these on to Auto open and close from the Key - So when I lock the Car they shut and vice versa?

2. The Phone link on Columbus seems odd to me !! When my Phone is connected it says my Provider is T-Mobile but I am on Virgin, when my Wife called me it then said the Provider was Orange!!! Is this normal? I select Virgin manually through the Binnacle display but it does nothing on the Main screen - The Main screen in fact does not show any connected phones?

3. Is there a way to get DAB on the Columbus? Or is my best option to buy one off the Chap on here who sells them?

4. Will there be wiring for a Towbar or was this a Factory option only at purchase? I know on my old Rover 75 Connoisseur the Wiring was there, but on our previous Octavia we had to order Factory Prep.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

1. The Car has Manual Powerfolding Mirrors, is there a way to turn these on to Auto open and close from the Key - So when I lock the Car they shut and vice versa? press and hold the lock button on the remote, should fold the mirrors. Then when you put the key in the ignition the mirrors will unfold.

2. The Phone link on Columbus seems odd to me !! When my Phone is connected it says my Provider is T-Mobile but I am on Virgin, when my Wife called me it then said the Provider was Orange!!! Is this normal? I select Virgin manually through the Binnacle display but it does nothing on the Main screen - The Main screen in fact does not show any connected phones? virgin is a virtual network which from memory uses the EE network which is orange/T-Mobile.

3. Is there a way to get DAB on the Columbus? Or is my best option to buy one off the Chap on here who sells them? You would need the DAB version of the Columbus.

4. Will there be wiring for a Towbar or was this a Factory option only at purchase? I know on my old Rover 75 Connoisseur the Wiring was there, but on our previous Octavia we had to order Factory Prep. pretty sure the wiring won't be there. But could be wrong.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Fantastic !!! Thank you :)

For the towing electrics there was a factory prep option but it wasn't the full setup - you still need an extra kit. You can buy the full setup from the dealer easily enough and they can check your VIN to see what might already be there.

Thanks, We took our Octavia to a Fitter near to us who fitted the Kit and Towbar, I recall it needing an extra loom or something. We are away in April so I need to get on my Skates with this one lol !! Can't pull my Caravan without a Towbar :D

1. On my 2011 model I only get all 4 windows to open or close when I hold the Unlock or Lock button on the key fob. My mirrors only fold in when I turn the inside mirror adjuster joystick manually. And I like it this way as I rarely need the mirrors folded in. I really don't think the mirror motors would last a lifetime of folding In/Out on every lock/unlock cycle. Just my view.

Mine was like this. I had to reset the windows to make it work.

Drop all 4 windows, then put all 4 windows back up and hold the switches till they are all deffo as far as they'll go.

I have my mirror switch on the heat setting permanatly and when I press and hold the lock button on the keyfob my mirrors fold. Can't see it being an issue for the motors...The mirrors are designed to be folded away.

I wouldn't want them folding in and out every lock cycle either and they dont do that on my 2014. They only fold when I press and hold the lock button. So, in shopping centre and multi story car parks, I fold them (press and hold of the lock button for a few seconds). At home in my drive, I don't (quick press of the lock button only)

The only automatic aspect of the folding is the mirrors folding out when you put the key back in the ignition.

Thank you all, I have tried the Key and it does indeed fold the mirrors in and fold out when ignition switched on :)

Getting to grips with everything now, love the little umbrella holder in the door...... Sadly my umbrella is not there, so will look into that at a later date, not important right now lol

You'll need the additional wiring harness whether it has factory prep or not. I'd advise getting the Skoda wiring kit since it integrates with the other vehicle systems, especially ESP, parking sensors and alarm. The ESP has a towing mode when it detects a trailer present - it can do things like correct for swaying. Alarm will go off if the trailer is unplugged while it's set. Rear parking sensors deactivate when a trailer is attached. It also appears to be a full 13-pin setup too so no additional messing around to provide power for the fridge.
