Approx cost for a new front bumper?

Featured Replies

Missus has had an argument with a concrete post (thankfully at low speed) and the front bumper on my car now has a big crack in it.  Don't fancy going through the insurance unless I have to so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on an approx cost of replacement?

The car is a 2016 Octavia Estate VRS with front parking sensors - yes, the irony of having front parking sensors on a bumper wrecked when parking is not lost on me.  Suffice to say my wife won't be borrowing my car for a while.

Any thoughts?  It happened tonight so I'll be speaking to the local dealer for costs tomorrow or Thursday but wanted an idea so I can check they're being sensible with the quote.

Thanks in advance all....

Standard bumper alone, unpainted is about £380...(seriously!) Includes the grille, the whole lot, it's one piece. Parking sensors will add to that too.

Perhaps it's repairable? Plastic welding can work wonders...

Yep, £380 unpainted and unfitted. I got a price 2 days ago, after a pheasant destroyed my grill.

Bugger.  So probably a grand all in one painted, fitted and the sensors fettled into place.

Thanks guys.

If you have protected no claims, I'd bite the bullet and go through your insurance company

Excess is £500 and had to claim last year (my fault) so probably not worth going through insurance

Also have a word with chips away, they might be able to weld fill and spray it for a lot less.

Had a quote from the garage - £1300 Inc VAT- as it seems at least one of the front parking sensors is knackered.

That means that even if I got the bumper plastic welded I'd still need to pay out to fix that.

Will probably go with the garage quote  thanks all

Parking sensor £20

Chips away repair maybe £300.

£1300 is a bit excessive...

Definately give a mobile repairer (chipsaway, dentmaster etc) a chance to quote as they should be sub-£500 if deemed repairable. My missus left the handbrake off after parking on my drive. After she got out the car rolled into the road and clipped oncoming traffic. End result was a split rear bumper which was welded, filled and resprayed by a local repairer within a few hours. Three years later the repair is unnoticeable.
