2 Amber Lights on Dash but only when lights are on

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a weird issue on a Skoda Yeti i bought at the weekend all was working fine when i viewed and checked the car over but had a 80 odd mile drive home and it started doing it with 15-20 miles to go.

The Garage i have bought the car from are keen to have it in so they can sort the problem but just wanted to see if anyone can shed any light on the problem.

Basically i get the two amber warning lights in the picture attached to this thread but they only appear when the lights are on either turning the lights on or when its dark enough when set to Auto, and i get no fault codes at all when i scan the car for faults. When lights off no sign of the amber lights at all.

Somebody suggested maybe a dodgy battery so i had the battery tested at halfords and all showing fine, i have also attached a picture of the battery i just wanted to confirm this is the correct battery for the car incase its something weird like that.

Someone also suggested disconnecting the battery and letting the ECU do a kind of reboot/reset which i might try tonight, the car was sat for a couple of months at the garage i bought it from so wondering if it was something weird with the battery being abit low to start with.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The lights look like Diesel Particle Filter and Power Steering fault (if you didn't already know).

If those two where the actual fault though would they not be on all the time not just when the lights are on?

The dealer says take it back, do that or it might affect whatever warranty they have given

Will be going back on saturday for them to diagnose and sort just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue before cheers neil

If you had access to VCDS, a scan would probably reveal all.

Battery a good candidate though I reckon, even if Halfords did test it out OK.

How old is it ?

I changed my battery after 3 years, and others have had odd electrical issues caused by a seemingly OK battery.

Hello,

Update dropped car of on saturday and they looked at it yesterday, turns out to be a fault with the instrument cluster so they have sent this away to be fixed and should have the car back early next week.

Cheers

Hi Neilopafc.  I have a motorhome based on a 2009 Fiat Ducato van.  These vehicles have been plagued for years with spurious warning LEDs coming on dimly, due to faults within the instrument cluster.  They are usually too dim to be seen in daylight. Lucky owners have had their clusters changed under their 3 year warranty.  Others have had to stump up £500 to a main dealer (eek !) for a new cluster or about £150 to get their own repaired by a specialist such as Cartronix in Portsmouth.  The advantage of having your own repaired is that it doesn't need to be reprogrammed.  I suspect it's due to penny pinching or poor quality control at the cluster manufacturers, but I don't know what the exact failure mechanism is.  One can of course ignore these lights, but eventually the MOT man is going to see the ABS light for example, interpret it as a fault and issue a failure.

Prompted by @Austin 7 above - There was a similar possible issue with some Octavias, caused by dry solder joints in the instrument cluster PCB.
