Rear RHS rattle

Featured Replies

Hi, 1 year old hatchback. A rattle has started in the rear right-hand side, mostly at low speed on bumpy roads. There's nothing in the boot can be causing it. I have yet to check the spare wheel (I've never even been in there since I bought the car). I wonder about the right rear seat. I will check these in a few days time, but wondered if you nice people had other suggestions or experiences. Thx. KK

I have something similar (plastic rattle only on really bad road surfaces at very low speeds), but I still not asked my better half to drive while I am sitting in the boot. :)

Let me (us) know if you found the source!

Is yours a combi as mine?

Thanks for this, yes it sounds an identical problem. What is a combi ?   Mine is a hatchback.  I'm planning to strap someone into the rear seat & see if that helps !   K

combi = estate :)

Mines a Combi as well. When I slam the tailgate someting rattles inside it, but luckily not whem I'm driving. I think I'll wait until the next service for an investigation. .

Mine is a hatch, something rattles in the tailgate and the bootlid seems to rattle / vibrate on all but the smoothest road surfaces.

I wanted to get the rear trim off - that which has the grab handle coming out of it, however it looks like the bootlatch is part of the trim and could be a big job? Haven't a workshop or Haynes manual for reference.

(I've tried:

- adjusting the rubber stops

- adjusting the side stoppers

- removing the parcel shelf

- removing the boot floor

- sticking felt pads anywhere where there seemed to be contact between a movable item and bodywork

- wrapping tape around the boot latch D ring

- similar with the rear seat latches

No spare wheel, has the foam for the tyre pump and aerosol, tyres are 3 continental and a cheapy that will be replaced once it has worn a bit more)

OK, it seems I have found the source in mine.

The RL seat backrest makes the rattle but only when it's locked (normal position).

When I 'unlock' the backrest the noise simply disappears.

Unfortunately it's something inside the backrest (lock mechanism?).

Youtube video with a temporary fix. :D

Later I will try and wrap the latch with harness tape and/or modify it's position with a rubber hammer.

Have exactly the same problem. MY16 hatchback. Very annoying creak coming from rear right seat when going over rough surfaces. Has anyone got a word from the service guys?
