Tint level - needs suggestions please

Featured Replies

Hey all

I've finally gotten round to sorting my windows getting tinted this weekend (by AK tints for the curious minded). This was my number one 'to do mod' and I've owned the car over 2 years now. What have I been doing?!

Really looking forward to it and hoping it goes well. Fed up of seeing cars that are tinted so it was time to bite the bullet.

I've a race blue MKII and my main question is, what preference of tint did you choose?

Personally, I'm thinking maybe 20% as it's not too light IMHO. Deffo don't want limo black although I'm sure on some colour schemes, it perhaps suits. Is anyone willing to post any pics of theirs?

It would be nice to see some comparisons and also, some fellow race blue enthusiasts VRS's :)

Cheers

Just keep it legal.

From memory, you can't have anything more than 20% tint (includes anything from the existing glass) forward of the B post.

Behind that you may have "limo black" or "full mirror"; I'd think maybe 40% blue should look good with Race Blue.

The front windows are only just legal from the factory, allowing 72% of light through. Do what you like on the rears.

OEM rear tints allow 42-45% of light through.

I had 5% limo in boot area, and 20% on rear windows. I did not touch the front.

That's a gorgeous MK3 Andy. My old man wants one of these I think. Is it 220BHp?

Cheers for the link Vegasphil. Nice build thread I can see you have more extras than me (only a touch jealous ha ha).

I don't plan on going anywhere near the fronts. Thanks again for the pics gents.

I've got 20% VLT (all side and rear glass) and given my night vision isn't as great as it used to be, I'd probably get ~30%VLT next time.

Good weather, 20% is fine but if it's dark and rainy, it's a fraction too dark.

I'm like andy above and got 5% limo on the rears except the rear screen where i got 20%.

I didn't touch the fronts.

I find it to be perfect all year round

The 5% on the back does take a little getting used to. When i picked it up after it was done I turned on to the main road, the sun was glaring in through the front window. I looked out of the back window and it was like it was midnight.

In my opinion, 20% (as in, 20% light making it through) is the best.

Dark enough for privacy and an elegant look.

Transparent enough to let you see through in the dark and not to make the glass look like an ugly plastic cover.

I find this to be the sweet spot when it comes to window tinting. You can tell you obtained it when you can still see the silhouette of someone inside but can't tell who or what exactly it is :).  Had the same on 2 cars so far and I couldn't be happier.

I have limo tints on back windows and boot.

Protects the kids in all the sun we have in this country.

Looks great imo.
