High beam flashers sticking on

Featured Replies

When I flash someone with my high beams (pull the stalk briefly towards me a few times) they seem to get stuck on sometimes which is highly annoying especially for other drivers.

I have to then pull the stalk a few more times to get them to switch off.

Would it be the stalk that needs replacing or could i try cleaning it with WD40 or similar?

Neither, switch your lights briefly to side lights only and back again. Everyone is a winner :)

Well I'm not sure about that as it seems like its the stalk getting stuck,  as when you activate permanent high beam the lights will always switch off again when returned to the middle.

The only issue is with the 'flashing' function pulling the stalk towards you.

My main point was that by not flashing your main beams you stop dazzling the person you are trying to thank :p

On my vRS I push the stalk forward to keep the highbeams on. I don't use the flash for the above reasons.

What about, for example, when someone is trying to change lanes in front of you are in and you need to signal to show you are letting them in?

Or when the Peugeot driver pulls out on you at 60mph and you need to signal to them to, 'speed up as I'm about to crash into the back of you'

I use them for lots of reasons where they are necessary, not for saying 'thank you' or when it would dazzle anyone.

Needless to say if there's a hazard up ahead that cars are driving towards where a quick flash of the lights gets the message across

I thought that might be the only option, short of removing my current one and cleaning it out.

Might be an excuse to get a cruise stalk and get it all fitted at the same time lol :)

I had the same on my previous Mk2 Golf. New stalk cured it.
