Front window regulator cables

Featured Replies

The window regulator cables in my mk1 Fabia drivers door have failed, so I'm going to replace them myself (the door is in bits, waiting for the new parts) - Does anyone know if the manual and electric windows use the same cables? All I can seem to find on eBay etc all just mention electric but mine are manual.

I bought the full regulators already mounted on the metal backing plate via Eurocarparts, there was a 60% discount off on that day so worked out at like £32 inc postage :P

Its only £8 for a set of cables off fleabay if they're the right ones :D

For what it's worth, the illustrations on this page make it look like the cables may be the same, only obvious difference shown is where the motor or handle attaches.

Maybe google-image those item 1/item 2 part numbers hoping for clear photos to compare?

But its not just the cables that are always at fault, the fixed pulleys on the brackets rust stopping the cable moving freely, the plastic clips that slide up and down have also been revised to metal parts as they where prone to snapping. Its a bit of a pig of a job if you need to get rivoting, wouldn't fancy doing it again in a few months.

The rivets won't be getting replaced, I'm going to drill the hole slightly larger and install rivet nuts so if the panel has to come off again it won't be such a nightmare. I'll be definitely having a proper look over the weekend though to check for the cause of failure so maybe I'll have to put my hand in my pocket and shell out on the full lot.

You have to get the right cable set. They are different. The regulator gears sit in a different position on the door for electric vs manual.

Google images can help to see the difference.

If the door is in bits: -

Is there any reason not to drill out the rivets and have a good look at the back side of the carrier?

Assess the extent of the problem, then decide to buy the carrier/reg replacement or just a new cable set?
