Caliper Carrier Bolts

Featured Replies

My Scout is getting some new rear disks and pads. They are the 272 mm disks.  A friend is helping me and he says I need to get new caliper carrier bolts. The local Skoda dealer doesn't even stock them, they're special order, so are they really routinely replaced? Thanks.

They'll have a locking compound on them 'new' from the factory - I wouldn't always replace routinely, but judge on the condition each time and always put some thread lock back on when installing used ones - they're fairly substantial and not likely to 'stretch' imho, but more likely to become damaged on removal or rusty, have just got a genuine vag rear set of 4 for my Caravelle off the shelf from local TPS for £12 so not too expensive - scout should be very similar - m14 high tensile 10.8 bolts I'd think?

Your mate is right as they are stretch bolts so should be used once only but pretty sure its common practice to reuse them as I had to order them too as they don't keep them in stock.

I replaced them when I did mine. I think I'd leave them for one or two changes before replacing unless visible damage or corroded though now. It was handy to have them on hand, I did it on the drive and no backup vehicle if  I'd I got stuck.

I posted a week or two back Bolt sizes and Skoda part numbers. If you look in my profile you maybe able to see thread or search. The rears weren't too expensive - front were pricey from Skoda. Would use high tensile replacements for front next time.

I couldn't see any signs of threadlock on removing old items but maybe it was there. It is more the tightening torque then 1/4 or 1/2 turn more that strains them.  I didn't go to town on tightening them. They were tight so that I was comfortable re-assembling.

Part numbers listed in here - make sure they are the same in your car, but highly likely they will be.

Thanks for that TheClient, mine are the same, I've ordered them. they've gone up a bit £4.50ea +VAT for the rears!

That is some inflation in under 12 months! Is that each bolt so 4x required? That is what my price listed was for, each bolt.  Hope the rest of the part catalogue doesn't follow that trajectory! That is about what the fronts cost me and I was a bit taken aback!  Still you've got them for the job, so onwards....
