Fumes in the cab

Featured Replies

Well my Yeti is going back into the dealers tomorrow, its gassing myself and my family while driving, its a 20Ltr TDI, if I keep the ventilation on  recirculation its not too bad, iv owned 9 diesels over the years and 2 have been Skoda's.

The smell is like a combination of diesel exhaust fumes and a strong hydrocarbon type smell, the dealers have had it twice already and found nothing, no leaks etc.

The performance is very good and so is the MPG.

Has anyone else had this problem at all please.

Thanks in advance :)

Has the turbo to dpf gasket started to leak?

I had something  similar with my Octy Scout, turned out the EGR Cooler had gone, resulting in a new EGR Cooler being required.

The vehicle had been given a clean bill of health twice by the dealer. Fortunately it was covered under my aftermarket extended warranty. As was a leaking rear diff which they also said was fine, even though it had been noted as 'weeping' during its last MoT.

On mine, a small metal flexi pipe that connects to the EGR cooler fractured and split open, so exhaust gas was leaking out behind the engine.

Can't say I noticed a smell, but there was a faint whine/whistle when accelerating, which got louder as the split grew bigger over time.

Also, there was soot all around the area - it was a difficult area to see though, as from above it was hidden down the back of the engine below the turbo/manifold, and from below awkward due to subframe, exhaust and 4wd transfer box, propshaft etc.

Got mine replaced by an independent VAG specialist.

^^^^ all that soot fouls the cooler over time .

Thenk goodness for Euro6 and the end of the EGR/cooler valve.

To be fair there was no build up in the pipe that was removed. Yes there was a black coating of soot, but no thickness to it (imagine it being sprayed with matt black paint - that's what it looked like).

That's so, but the imternals of the cooler and inlet manifold accumulate the carbon build up over time.

It's no wonder blanking is popular.
