  • Worn valves or guide seals
  • Failure to change your oil or oil filter regularly enough
  • Damage or wear to pistons
  • Turbocharger issues

The correct PD oil was always put in it and oil filter was always changed when needed serviced

Thanks for replying

In diesel engines, a pale blue smoke may mean that you have air in the fuel system, which would also mean you have a problem with your fuel pump or the fuel pipes.

Would it be injectors

no mate i don't think so sounds to me like your burning oil , maybe get the mechanic to check the PCV system as thats where you will be loosing oil, you might need a leak down test blue smoke isn't good mate i hope its nothing serious but its not a quick fix

this is worth a read , if your turbo was leaking oil it could of filled your intercooler and if the mechanic didn't clean it you would still be getting oil in exhaust , also some talk of glow plugs causing this

Had glow plug changed today and all four came out easily after almost 12 years use!

I can now confirm that starting from stone cold no blue ish smoke or any coloured smoke comes out at all! Engine is smooth on start up with no lumpy idle ! In fact it's so smooth I had to check the Rev counter to see if engine was running!

The garage didsay it's common to throw out blue Ish smoke with knackered glow plugs on cold start ups?

This is good news as it s cheap fix unlike new valve seals . Plus I'd be disappointed if if needed new valve seals with my mileage and careful service schedules.

No i have a standard vrs exhaust. car has only 94,000miles on it didn't expect any engine problems so soon. when the blue smoke started i then checked the oil level and it was all gone would the oil be being dumped into the exhaust ??

@thomasaspin - If your garage told you that you get blue smoke from knackered glow plugs, change your garage! Cold start smoke on a diesel is white, and smells of diesel!

@Stephenmc - If you've lost enough oil to lose a level on the dipstick, I think you have knackered turbo oil seals. Try and avoid driving the car, before you get a "James Bond" smokescreen! Meantime, look and see if the tailpipe is oily inside.

Ken are you for real ? I've just linked the chap to a post with a guy with similar problems to Stephen and replacement glow plugs fixed his problem with regards to faulty oil seals that's what I thought but then again if you also did a bit of reading you would see ste has also had a new turbo fitted , that's why I asked about a decat Exaust because maybe if he was running one he maybe is loosing too much back pressure causing the oil seals to leak , all I can think is maybe his intercooler is full of oil from the first time he has had it replaced
