Fitting Sub In Combi

Featured Replies

Hi

Just wonderd if anybody had fitted a sub in there combi. I would like a sub just to add some depth to the music not to shake the car :p so not looking for anything huge, also want to keep as much boot space as possible after all thats why I brought a combi, so any ideas on a make of sub and best place to fit it?

Cheers

Darren

If it can take it \ line \ strengthen with MDF sheet, how about the two cubby holes we have? Throw an 8" in each side, would certainly make a difference?

that is what i am planning to do once i get the speed related mods out of the way and IF i get swmbo's permission

would this be good enough for some depth from a sub?

ROC-BASSSYS

300w

THIS FANTASTIC COMBO COMPRISES:

Punch 201S Amplifier

12" Punch Z Subwoofer

PLUS!

Rockford Carpeted Bass Enclosure (grille shown is optional extra)

Complete IXOS amplifier wiring kit

Total Seperate RRP

That sounds like a good package, and I think that my amp is also the Punch201...? Oh no, hang on, it's only the 100 watt one, not 200, but either way it's a damn good brand to choose.

The only thing I would say about the 12" sub, is that although it's a good one, it would take up more room than a couple of little ones that can be tucked away, like Ian said. Although I've got no idea on the size of these cubby holes? All I know is mine is taking up a fair chunk of boot space, but I ain't fussed TBH. I also didn't want the sub for shaking the car, but it will if I so desire! :D :speaker:

What the hell, let's post that pic again.

my octy has a huge boot anyway. what will the sound be like off that sub? will it be powerfull enough to get a good level off bass?

I wouldn't recommend mine for boot saving - it's quite sizeable IMO.

As for power, the 500W maximum output is good enough for shaking all the seats/mirrors/glass in my little car. :speaker: And, when I want it to, it will even add a nice level of bass to CDs such as Dido and other rock type albums like Feeder and Stereophonics. It's a very good all-rounder. :D

(Thinking) I still haven't really thanked Des enough for that sub... I luv it

will that rockford one above give good performance do u think?

It'll sound great.

Rob.

If my 100 watt Rockford does what it does, then I imagine a 200 watt rockford would be excellent!

A 300 watt sub is not as big as you might think. And, it seems weird matching a 200w amp to a 300w sub - seems like a bit of overkill on the amp front IMHO. (considering a 100w amp is powering my 500w sub perfectly) - I would maybe go for a bigger sub, as most of the package price is the amp I reckon, and the sub could be a relatively cheap affair...? - Still, it's the same brand which has to count for something. I'd listen to it if possible before you buy.

that deal sold seperately is

Ooooh, dangerous assumption when it comes to hi-fi components, as just because one company make an excellent range of products doesn't mean that all their other product ranges are excellent nor that combining the ranges will give the best results!

If the amp is producing 200W the sub won't produce more than 200W...so running it in this combination isn't a problem... :)

cool should be a good deal for the money then

Really Rob?

So my Amp isn't getting the full whelly out of my sub? - On full whack the sub sounds like it's whacking out a lot more than 100 watts? - or maybe that's just me...

So me getting a 200watt Rockford amp would actually increase the sub's output? interesting. :speaker: :D

Well, the sub is powered by the amp. So if a 100W amp can generate 500W output to power a sub, it'd be a topsy-turvy world indeed... :)

Amp power is much like horse power, people tend to focus on it rather than other stuff that really makes a difference to quality and useability. Yes, a 200W amp would increase the sub's output, but having heard the "presence" of the existing setup it's not really worth it unless you want to go into competitions or deafness... ;)

...so I made a deal with sandra, it was simple enough - "let me buy a fast estate instead of an MPV and I won't fill the boot with subs, I promise"

Regretting that promise!!!

Couldn't you fit 'em in the roof or something? :D

Rob.

Great idea!

...but they'd scream surely? And I don't think the police would approve, nor the NSPCC...

..but it's an idea, I like your style! :D

Cut a disc out of the front passenger bulkhead and hide them behind the floor carpet?

Subs, what subs, etc.? :D

Rob.

I have been enlightened, Rob - and yes, I'm very happy with my current setup, but if I spot a spare 200w amp going spare somewhere, I could be tempted to upgrade, just so I know I have the ability - after all, it wouldn't be much work to swap as all the cables are already laid in. At the moment, it is definitely the least of my worries/desires.

Nah bugger the space get yourself 2 x JL Audio 12W7's. With 2 of them babies space will be the last thing on yer mind.....:asthanos:

The neighbours will hear you coming from Lithuania!!!!:speaker: :speaker: :speaker: :speaker:
