1.0mpi 60bhp vs 1.2htp 60bhp

Featured Replies

Simple really.. didnt stick this in the furby section as it crosses mk2 and mk3 lines.

Thinking of swapping the citigo for a fabia later this year as swmbo would like a bit more load space in the car.

And. I want try and keep her car reasonably young, looking at likely 2014/15 to replace 2013 citigo.

Doing a quick search to look at the budget, im wondering... whats the ruddy difference?

The citigo is a 1.0mpi bhp and its a fun little go kart, but..the furby is a bit bigger and heavier, but alot of them are either the same 1.0mpi or  the 1.2htp. both are 60bhp outputs, but wheres there actual difference. No doubt the torque curves are different, but in overall day to day driving... whats the experience?

1.2tsi 84bhp might fall into budget later in the year, depending on how things go/ seem, but tbh probably isnt really needed for swmbo's usual driving, not sure how they like lots of short/cold journeys either..

Thanks guys

The turbo should have a bit more torque so it might be a bit better to drive in most circumstances. But then it might be awful if you get caught off turbo and might be thirsty.

I think you'd really have to try them to see if you like the way they drive

The 1.2 tsi has bags of torque, it will quite happily trundle around between 1000 and 1500 revs.  I can't comment about the 1.0 tsi.

^^^The 1.0TSI is just becoming available so not available with a 2014/15 Fabia,

but then it will have 200Nm compared to 175Nm with a 1.2TSI.

If going mk3 Fabia 1.2TSI then that is a euro 6 emissions compared to the Euro 5 1.2TSI in a Mk2.

Alls about the tsi, and bugger all about the 1.0 mpi 60bhp vs 1.2 htp 60bhp question :D

Come on lads, concentrate ya daft eejits :p

City car engine or rural use might be the best for this engine, nice and simple, uncomplicated, something the manufacturer seemed to evolve into a pretty reliable engine. Simple servicing.

Does exactly as it says on the tin, so drive one see how it goes and if the gearbox fitted suits the engine and use the car will get.

'Simply Clever stuff'.

Average, acceptable, OK, What Car of the year but they would have preferred a Polo obviously...

Can't help you on the 1.0MPI but I have the old HTP engine in my MK1 and its a great engine really flexible with torque from about 3000rpm onwards so doesnt have to be revved around town.

I know they've retuned it for the later cars but think that should have improved it.

It's obviously not speed you are interested otherwise you would be looking at the TSI engines so I don't think there would be a problem having either 1.0 or 1.2 HTP

They are both 3 cylinder 12v engines (although I think the early ones were 6v).

The 1.2 has a little more torque (and probably from lower down).

But to be honest there's so little difference between them you're not going to notice.

The Fabia is 0.5 seconds slower to 60 than a Citigo but in real world terms this margin is probably lower given the increased torque and so it may feel slightly quicker if not having to get it revving so much.

If you're happy with the 1.0 mpi then I see no reason why you won't be happy with a 1.2.

Obviously fuel economy takes a bit of a hit.

Probably the best answer you will find mac11irl

The 1.2 htp engine comes in 6v and 12v versions. The our mk2 Blueline is the 12v version and the wife gets low 40's mpg out of it.

Why not get into the "bad boy club" and try a TDI .I don't know what the MK2/3 ones are like .but my little 1.4 is so much fun and not so friendly with the fuel place. On the open road/motorway  it goes well( I used to do Midlands to Lochaber in one trip with ease) and in town has so much torque . Mine says 70 BHP on the box- I'd suggest box lies.

OH,BTW- I don't bother about driving for economy and regularly get 50 +

Tdi is pointless for her driving.

U like most of ireland i understand the benefit/drawbacks of the fuel type being used for particular driving situations ;)

Ideally, she would be getting a hybrid Furby 3 - electric for her commutes but able to do the occasional longer spin without factoring in charging locations and time, but it doesnt exist :D
