What optional extra should I retro-fit next?

Featured Replies

My car came with a few extras such as climate control and maxidot but lacks others... I can't decide what to do next so what do people want to see?

Im confident I can do these upgrades with all genuine parts so how they left the factory.

- Cruise control

- Heated seats

- Parking sensors

- Tyre pressure monitoring

Which should I crack on with first?!

I'll be honest I have all those on my VRS!

The first owner wasn't shy on the spec!

I reckon you should tackle the parking sensors.

Heated seats as thats what missing from mine!

Heated seats is probably one of the cheapest and easiest as well :D

Yeah... well... I have electric rear windows, retrofit them! :D

Now that I would like to see! I also have all the above spec but keep fit windows in the back.

Tyre pressure monitoring is not that good - it takes several kays to "realise" when something's wrong.

car is in garage today my tyre pressure was set at 30psi a month ago and the light came on this morning actaully on way to garage for boost problem and tyre measured at 20psi so it does work

Works, not exactly top trump technology.

It was there to let drivers know of sudden loss of pressure because somehow they are 'Tommy'.

Set at 30psi and warning at 20psi is not great is it unless the 20psi just happened, a warning at 25psi would have been useful.

I don't care much for the system i suppose, I'll know if my tyres are going down because of how the car drives, it's more just to have the gadget and another option ticked off the list.

Parts are quite cheap but looks a little bit of a pain to install overall.

Ive retrofitted a lot of stuff but by far the most usefull ones are the front ops .

I know the octavia is bigger but its great to park in tight spaces.

Dab is also a great addition along with bt.

As far as fitting goes addng front ops is a big ol job time wise.

Mine was well Spec also

Thought they all came with Rear Elec Windows :o mine does

I believe I have everything except Cruise Control & DAB if that was a option

I don't think front OPS is an option on the Fabia module so will have to be rear OPS only, I want that mainly to link up to my RNS510 Columbus.

I already have the satnav, DAB and Bluetooth :)

Not many have rear electric windows either.

See if you're only wanting me to come visit next week to steal my rear sensors we are gonna fall out!

If you have rear ops like i did you need to change the module to an 8k version then it just requires wiring and sensors and a bit of coding.

It's the coding that doesn't get accepted on the Fabia iirc. It was never a choice or option to have them fitted.

I'll do some digging around when it comes to fitting them and if it looks possible then I'll definitley get front and rear, will possibly have the only Fabia with "factory" front parking sensors I suppose.

As for the heated seats, I've just phoned Skoda to order the parts. £26 per switch, £4.50 for each bare plug then £4 per wire, I was told I'll need 6. The seats I've fitted already have heating elements so just need the additional wiring and coding!

Yeah I have manual windows in the back.

I have since found out that my car was Hayselden Skoda Doncasters demo Fabia so might figure the higher spec.

Cruise Control is really useful to have if you do any long trips,it makes longish journeys much easier in light traffic : )

YS53, yeah it is nice to be fair

I do a lot of motorway travelling so I'd recommend it

Until we got the Fabia - I didn't have cruise for 2 years and our fairly regular 500 mile dashes became hard work LOL.

My last 10 cars have had cruise - 5 of them retrofits, but I had ended up with a lovely 306 diesel turbo (originally bought as a runaround) and which became our motorway car eventually, she had a 13 gallon tank which gave an easy 600 mile range. We sold the 306 last year and the Fabia is now our long distance car.

Seeing as my wife's Polo has front and rear PDC sensors system fitted, I've started gathering all the bits to retro fit front PDC system to my 2011 Audi S4, using genuine parts and Kufatec cables. The Audi bumpers have the location marked on the inner face for drilling holes for the sensors, I bought the hole cutter - the one that cuts the correct size of hole and sort of drags the outer face in a bit to avoid the need to paint the through holes. While I was sniffing around my Audi dealership waiting for the parts guy to appear, I read the latest Audi Driver mag and it covered the fitting of the latest dealer sold retro fit PDC sensors to a TT. The latest version of these kits, which were made by Cobra who is now part of Vodaphone, give you the outward appearance of the factory fitted sensors as fitted to the latest models, these kits have a threaded mount that has self adhesive tape to stick it to the inner face of the bumper, the actual position of the sensor is adjustable using a threaded internal mount so you can get the sensors to side "bang on" level with the bumper outer surface. Obviously that system does not integrate into any parts of the car like the factory fit does, but if all someone wants is a warning system that sounds at the right time and looks like factory fit, then that new Vodaphone system will fit the bill! If any of that floats anyone's boat? When I saw Vodaphone printed on to the controller I thought ??? but now I know why!

That's interesting, if the polo 6R has front OPS then it's definitley possible on the Fabia.

What year is the polo?

I would be interested in knowing about the front OPS as the fabia has awful front vis of the bumper. I havw gotten used to it but I have hit a wall once which wasn't a nice noise (luckily no damage)

My elegance fabia wasn't that greatly speced out, since purchase I have only done, RNS315 (Bluetooth and DAB) and Auto Headlights! I would say cruise control is a very good option to retro fit... I use this everyday on the motorway!

Sorry for the delay in replying, the Polo is a 6C, an August 2015 car. I think the "electrics" on that car is smothered by "component protection" so adding changing will always mean involving a main dealer!!  Looks like me adding this function to my February 2011 Audi S4 could be my last chance to make some changes without needing to involve the main dealer, progress??

Component protection can be removed but that's somthing els, we don't need to worry about that with the Fabia 5J really.

The new polo is different so still doesn't look possible (granted nothing's impossible) but for a proper oem install might cause problems.

My alternator has decided to start making noises so that's now a priority, also going to remove the EGR valve and I've got some 256mm bigger rear brakes so they will be fitted.

heated seats are under way, just building up parts

Id check the coding first

I.e. can you get it to display the ops screen for front and rear.

If it does and the car already has rear ops it should be an easy retrofit with an oem kit.

I simply changed the box at the rear for an 8k version and added the front wiring, sensors, button etc.
