Choices after PCP

Recommended Posts

Would really like some advice from those who've been through similar.

ive got 64 plate 1.6tdi estate elegance. 44k, 12 months to go on PCP. Current settlement 10770 GMFV 8200. Can VT it any time though. Went to dealer today, offered me £8900 for it. Which led to a crazy new PCP quote on another Octavia (£450 per month!!!!). So that's not realistic!

What are are my best options?

1- Keep the the current car indefinitely run it in to the ground and hope there's some good "scrappage" offered for dirty diesels in few years.

2- give it back in March and walk away. Lease new octavia/superb then as current deals will get cheaper.

3- cut my losses and VT it now (my only worry about this is that there's a tennis ball dent on wheel arch after thanks to someone in car park, how much will that cost me when I give it back?) and lease new 2.0tdi Octavia sel for sub £300 taking advantage on better spec. Might even lease vrs...

thanks

Are you over your agreed mileage? Is so bear in mind Skoda will try to charge you excess mileage when you VT now.

Option 3 sounds the best bet to me. Don't know how much you will be charged for dent. Can't this be repaired by a mobile dent guy before you hand it back to avoid a shock payment?

its seems that new superbs and Octavias on Pcp have monthly payments over £400 unless you have a massive deposit. Certainly different to 3 years ago that's for sure. But I think this is to try and stop the depreciation fiasco that is happening on most octavias now. Skodas pcps now are having a lower balloon payment at end and and you are paying more per month instead.

The depreciation is certainly horrific on any Octavia "bought" via the PCP route, better by far to buy a nearly new example at a large slice off of the original list price or maybe a new one through one of the car discount specialists. All that Skoda has done with current PCP pricing is to lower the GFMV and increase monthly payments, you will probably pay the some sort of money overall but with such a low GFMV, you would have a sporting chance of actually having some equity in the car towards the end of the deal.

The better option might be to look at the PCH offers advertised by Simpsons Skoda and then approach a few of your local dealers to see who can/will match them. Apparently only a certain number of dealers can offer these deals but most choose not to advertise the fact too much, as they would rather on the whole sell cars outright or via PCP deals to get their sales bonuses etc.

For instance Simpsons are advertising the new Octavia 2 litre TD in SE Technology spec for £2490 deposit and £159 PCM x 23 or £179 x 23 for the Estate version, both deals on 10,000 miles per annum. Mind you for £179 PCM you can also get a Superb 2 litre TD SE Technology Estate car, which sounds like a better deal than the Octavia.

I'm within my mileage so that won't be a problem. I did have a quote to repair it for  approx £500 due to blending the paintwork but I'll get a second quote.

I've seen the simpsons offers but the initial payment is very high to make the monthly figure look so good. . I'm looking at approx £300 a month on 3+35 or 3+47 deals at 18k miles per year. Is it sensible to lease for 4 years? It's cheaper and I won't have to go through this again for a while!

Fix the dent yourself even if costs you a monkey, your in charge of the costs now give it back & it could be a grand, cos it ain't their money they're spending so, they won't care.

Don't lease outside warranty, its can be super expensive should anything go wrong, Risk & Reward possible save 3 or 4 hundred on lease fees to risk thousands in repair costs

Upto you, I'm just saying

Agree with lease length. I won't go over 2 years. I'm not paying mot repairs on a car that goes back a week later.

2 years is reasonable on tyres too. Mines having a single service before return. That's my only outlay.

Thanks for you comments. I agree on lease length, seems sensible not to go out of warranty. I think my mileage is too high to make 2 year viable.

The dent might be a bit of a deal breaker then at the moment as it would take up some of my initial payment money to get it fixed. I'll need to get a few quotes and go from there.

has anyone had any experience of BCA inspection and having damage on a car that's beyond wear and tear?
