Fabia mk2 VRS Vs Polo BlueGT

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I recently replaced my old Astra H 1.9cdti (150bhp) with a VW Polo BlueGT (1.4 tsi 150bhp with ACT). Ultimately I'm really impressed with the Polo and now believe the future for economic petrol engines is cylinder deactivation technology. My drive to work is 35 miles and 95% motorway. I generally drive at around 70mph during my commute to work. This yields a fuel economy figure of 50- 53mpg which ironically is more than I got from my diesel Astra.

Interestingly today though I decided to drive my Mk 2 Fabia VRS (1.4 TSI Twincharged 178bhp) which on the same journey achieved 46mpg.

Taking into account the Fabia was not really designed to be an super economic form of transport, so doesn't have start/stop or ACT like the Polo plus has an additional 30bhp I was really impressed!

i know there are issues with the Twincharged 1.4 TSI, but ultimately I can't really think of many petrol engines that will provide that amount of performance with that amount of fuel economy.

Just thought I'd share :)

I agree, I do really short journeys to and from work and get 35mpg+, a long trip down south with a fully laden car on A and B roads got me 45mpg. It's not even bad when the hammer goes down, mpg does drop when the temperature does though. Can't complain for the performance on offer though.

When the 1.4TSI / 1.4 TFSI Twinchargers with DSG were introduced the Audi A1 1.4TFSI 185ps was to have Stop /Start and there were issues and it did not get introduced in 2011 or later.

As to the 1.4 TSI ACT / 1.4 TFSI COD the Irregularities in EU testing means that the 1.5TSI ACT is the next future.

On they move.

There was a beaut of a car, the Ibiza 1.4 TSI FR 150ps that was built while SEAT never built the Ibiza Cupra in 2012 til the new engines went in in 2013.

Odd thing with that 1.4 TSI 150ps how good it performs for power, speed, economy. Good Engine Management obviously.

VW like getting cars out on the roads sometimes as test beds.

Quite correct regarding the vrs mpg

Was something I always took for granted but since I bought the 105tsi Monte I really can't tell much difference between the two
