Keys and VCDS Coding

Featured Replies

Morning folks,

Having just retrofitted Maxidot, and checked with newly coded key (cheers Eddie-Nl), I'm just coding the display. I have a couple of general issues which I am sorting through, however, I have noticed that both of my keys provide different fuctionality within Maxidot. Would I be right in thinking that any adaptions made with one key, must be made again with the second key, or, do I need to code the second key via vcds, if at all possible?

The second thing is, is there anyone with a VCDS scan of a FL O2  that they can post so that I can check that I'm doing this right and have the right box's ticked/unticked. I realise that there will be numerous combinations of equipment fitted / and personal adaptions, however it would be useful to be able to check that I've not missed something.

All help, as always, greatfully received. Thank you.

After further investigation, my MFSW right hand side buttons do nothing except:- the scroll button accepts changes to the display on click only. Changing the display requires a 2 second push on the wiiper stalk.

Having looked on VCDS, I have 2 options on steering wheels!! There is then a pop up box giving coding info for variations (see attached photo). How to code the correct options so that functionality is held by the MFSW as opposed to the stalk?

Further investigation shows I have the wrong coding!! Currently 0000130, nearly all wrong! Should be 0005104 to match my spec. Will recode tomorrow and see what happens. Still havn't figured out the key issue.

Well that didn't go according to plan! Now have:-

00895 - Cruise Control Switch (E45)
            014 - Defective - Intermittent
00002 - Transmission Control Unit
            004 - No Signal/Communication
00380 - Special Vehicle Control Module (J608)
            004 - No Signal/Communication
01426 - Controls in Steering Wheel (E221)
            004 - No Signal/Communication

00895 -  That could be because I don't yet have it fitted!

00002 - according to Ross Tech Wiki, with the symptoms that I have, it could be that the key that did NOT go with the new instrument for coding might not be matched to the cluster. Did notice that I don't have a flashing immobiliser light on drivers door when using that key.

00380 - that could be my sausage fingers when coding!

01426 - Slightly more concerning as the right hand buttons do naff all.

The wiper stalk, buttons on the end and underneath do all the functions on the max display, apart from, I can reset the trip distance to zero by pressng the scroll button!

Further investigations on RTW indicate possible loss of coding for the unmatched key, however, I can't access module 46 - central convenience, it shows no errors.

The search for truth and understanding continues.

The search for understanding is not going well!!

Anyone know why, in the scan below, module 46 is scanned in the auto scan, but does not show up in the file afterwards and is inacessible for coding?

Please ignore the faults, I know what's going on there (sausage fingers!!)

Cheers.

This is the answer I got from Langers2k when I asked the question recently.

"On the pre-FL, the CECM and CCM are separate modules (address 09 and 46).

On the FL, the BCM replaces both with a single module (address 09) but also creates a 'virtual module' at address 46. This is completely normal and you aren't suppose to access address 46"

Thank you very much. That answers several issues. How I missed your original post, I don't know. Just need to sort out the faults and figure out why I can't use the right hand buttons on the MFSW now.

Thanks again.

Update, both keys work correctly, and with Eddie-Nl's help, the rh buttons on mfsw now work. This was achieved by changing the coding, locking the car door, waiting until the instrument cluster goes blank, then unlocking. The lock/unlock step is required to allow the coding to set. Onwards and upwards.

You should code the steering controller 0000532 if you intend to fit cruise

or

0000502 if you don't

You should also code the BCM (09)

Coding > Long Coding > scroll through and look for MF trip computer by BAP. can't remember the exact name.

Tick that and you should have convenience and lights and vision

There is also an individual key option in there too

Edited by Eddie-NL

You would also need to enable cruise in the Engine if you want to add cruise

Coding II = 11463

Was going down the route of cc but came across a thread on one of the golf forums which indicated that the bcu i currently have fitted is incorrect for cc/acc fitting. Lost thread of where I was, but now easter is over, will get back amongst it.
