Is the cabin noise the same across trim levels?

Featured Replies

Just wonder if cabin noise is better in Style trim level compared to Ambition, also anyone know if there is a big difference between MK II and III in cabin noise? Read a review that stated the old model wasn't very quiet

I've just swapped from a 2014 Mondeo to the Superb and I think the S3 is a quiet car to be honest. Every bit as quiet as my dad's BMW and my mates new Audi A4

That mondeo is pre Ford Fusion then?

Btw how is rain, my current car is so noisy with heavy rain, not sure if Skoda uses multi layer glass

It was one of the last pre-facelift models on a '64 plate. Can't say that I find the Superb any noisier in the rain than the Mondeo? I did find that the Mondeo had a tighter turning circle and a slightly sportier driving characteristic when I gave it some beans on a country lane. Plus it had 163hp opposed to my Skoda which has 150hp. Still prefer the Superb though, it feels far classier.

I've gone from a Toyota Avensis 1.8VVTI (Petrol) to a Superb TDI 150 and I would say the Superb is a little noisier overall, but somehow the noise isn't quite as intrusive, it's a different noise if that makes any sense? I would say that road noise is very similar in both cars...

I have 18" wheels and Pirelli tryes. I reckon the road noise is a little worse than my old mk2 with 17" wheels and Goodyear tyres selected for low noise. It mignt be that the road noise seems worse as the engine is so quiet.

I went from a Seat Ibiza 1.2 TDi to my Superb 'S' (so lowest spec possible) and obviously it's a lot quieter - but I would say that my general impression is it's a quiet car anyway, even with a 1.6 TDi chugging away in front of me.  Can't really compare to modern large cars, last big car I had was an 'X' reg Peugeot 406 estate.  Definitely quieter than our 1.4 TDi Polo, but not much isn't...!

Just to add to and expand on my previous post. I found the road noise on the Avensis to be quite bad, especially on slightly rougher road surfaces (those often found on motorways) and it really intruded into the cabin at anything approaching 70mph. Through trial and error I found the 'Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance (215/55 R17)' to be the best followed very, very closely by Nexan. I can't remember the exact version of the Nexan but when put side by side with the Goodyear the tread pattern was exactly (and I mean exactly) the same. The Nexan was cheaper and tended to last a little longer.

At anything under 60mph the Avensis was a very quite car and knocking around town you hardly heard anything at all.

IMO, below 60mph the Superb is noisier... but, as I said before, somehow it isn't an intrusive noise... I actually quite like it. Above 60mph the Superb is quieter than the Avensis and trundles along very nicely. There is road noise and arguably more 'mechanical' noise, but these are supressed very well and therefore the ambient noise in the cabin is less intrusive (IMO...).

Apart from the damn seat (which I still haven't got quite right.!!) I find the Superbs cabin a very nice place to be regardless of whether I'm in town, on fast A roads or trundling down the motorway. :)
