Differences in suspension Octavia std vs 4wd vs Scout

Featured Replies

Hi.

Could anyone explain the differneces in suspension between the models. I know that the scout according to specs is 42mm higher. But is there any difference for the 4wd. Only height of the springs?

Thanks

Mattias

Hi I don't know what happenend but I couldn't log in with my email. Uses know a Facebook account. Anyhow.

I Woolf like to lower the scout to 40mm. Can I just change the springs or is there anything else I need to do?

thanks Mattias

my understanding was that the suspension is the same(heavy duty) and only the wheels make a difference

No. Original 225x55x17 wheels so it must be something else.

Ok, But I think it depends on which year. I guess from 2010 it's 17" when there was a small change in looks.

edit: actually 1Z facelift MK2 2009-2013

Looking at a FL brochure, the standard tyres would be:

- 205/60 R15 (4x4)

- 225/50 R17 (Scout)

This alone gives a ground clearance increase of 15mm which is almost the quoted 16mm difference between the 4x4 (163mm) and Scout (179mm).

If a 4x4 (or any non Scout Octavia) is running on 17's, it would get a 225/45 R17 tyre. This has a 12mm smaller radius than the 225/50 R17 the Scout has explaining the change in ground clearance.

If you do change tyre size, it will change the speedometer accuracy.

Thank you for clearing this to me. It makes then sence. As I still have winter tyres I will check the profile when I'm home. I didn't think that 4x4 had only 15".

My speedometer have about -5% difference compared to real value seen in GPS.

Different countries have slightly different spec levels for each model so the Swedish 4x4 might have come with 17's where as the UK got 15's.

Still, I'd expect the difference in tyre sizes :)

The running gear is identical in the 4x4 and Scout. Both have different springs and shocks from a standard Octavia which increases the ride height. The Scout has additional ground clearance over the 4x4 because the overall diameter of the wheels and tyres is larger.

So if I would want to lower it down is just to change springs in principal?

Probably, but I'm not sure what impact changing springs without the shocks would have.  Also the shocks come in two diameters and I don't know if the springs are interchangeable between types.

Mm..that's why I'm asking some questions here. What more is different. If I look at H&R lowering kit it's compatible with both 4wd version and scout. But in principal I then Could by std springs to lowering it down to get std height. What height do I get with a lowering kit which makes 40mm?!?
