Oh dear

Featured Replies

Just recently (this week) my car had thrown up the message "Engine Fault, Workshop", not the most inspiring message but it went as quickly as it arrived and then didn't come back for a few days.  It's happened 3 times now, each time was while slowing down.  It's a 2.0 CR140 with a DSG box

I plugged in an OBD II reader and hooked it up to Torque on my phone but doesn't appear to indicate any faults. Anybody seen anything like this?

A scan with VCDS will show a fault code. Anyone local to you with access?

I think you are right, probably the simple OBD reader doesn't get deep enough into the system.   I'll see if I can find a local VCDS, probably end up getting this system myself sooner or later.  May be sooner!

You could try Carista as that does talk VW diagnostics.

Hi Nathanio

Thanks for that, I loaded the free version and it showed 4 faults but not related to engine. 2 for Bluetooth (probably where I've tried to pair my phones without success due to no rSap) one for radio and one for navigation.  The radio one may have been due to not having DAB antenna installed (it is now), not sure about the Nav' one.

Unless I pay for the full version I can't find out any more or clear these,  I don't really want to spend out on this, if I'm going to start spending money I'd rather go for VCDS but could do with getting to the other side of payday first as I've had quite a bit of outlay this month having just bought the car.

Find someone local with VCDS before spending any money...
