Cleaning regular cloth seats - advice needed

Featured Replies

Apologies, but when I search for 'seat and clean*' using the search box I only get four threads returned. Probably need some advice on using the search box properly...

Anyway, I own a regular Fabia TDi with original cloth seats. A while ago I used a damp cloth to try to remove a mark from the seat and, when it dried, the mark had gone but there was a new larger stain due to the water. The other day I accidentally spilled some juice drink on the driver's seat, which has marked it badly. Am reluctant to try getting it out for fear of making it worse.

I'd really appreciate some guidance on the best way to get the seats clean without getting this horrible water staining. I have no idea which product to buy and how best to apply it to avoid staining. I don't know whether I'm supposed to scrub the cleaning product in, wipe it lightly, leave it to soak etc. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just links to previous threads. Any I've found seem to refer to VRs seats, beige seats, white cloth inserts and other types of fabric that don't seem to apply to the regular cloth ones in bog-standard TDi's.

Cheers.

Vanish foam carpet cleaner for bad stains then get a "rug doctor" or similar on hire from your local DIY store to do the rest.

Personally I used my Mum's Electrolux carpet shampooing machine - works a treat and the seats are dry in half a day or less.

i've used auto glym interior cleaner and other foam cleaners, which clean the, but do leave the od water mark.

If you do a search you will find this question is quite a common one, as most people with vrs' suffer from dirty or stained seats.

Since doing mine several people have recommended using soda crystals in a water solution to clean the seats.

Supposidly it removes stains quite well and doesn't leave water stain marks (However not having tried it yet I can't confirm this)

i have the same problem... used varnish cleaner. I know have great big water stains! Looks like ive been "doing things" on the front seats! Hmph!

The key to using vanish carpet cleaner is to not wipe it round in circles - follow the instructions ;)

I've tended to use a big sponge with hot water containing turtlewax car was stuff and that hasn't left any marks

I used soda crystals. Works a treat for me.

Best stuff I've ever used is VAX AAA Carpet Cleaning Fluid.

Absolutely fantastic stuff.

Get it from B&Q.

Oh, and while you're there, pick up a VAX Spot Scrubber.

Amazing!

Yep, I can certainly second Josh's suggestion. I got one after he suggested it last time and they've come up well.

The Spot Scrubber is also quite handy round the house

Many thanks for all the suggestions; I appreciate it. I'll perhaps try Josh's tip first and if I make a backside of it I'll just have to bite on the bullet and get a full valet to try to fix it as best I can.

cheers guys

Hi guys,

I have a question. What is exactly soda-crystals? Is it the name of a brand or a generic product used in the house? It may be weird that I ask this question but for me not beeing from UK it's hard to find a product like that, so I have to resemble it to something.

On google I found this: http://www.dripak.co.uk/sodacrystals.htm which is a specific brand, not a generic product.

Thanks :).

Catching up on old posts here, soda crystals or, more commonly, washing soda, is the common term for the chemical sodium carbonate Na2CO3. Washing soda is actually the hydrated form (contains water in the crystals). To find out more you could do a search using the words "sodium carbonate" or "sodium carbonate decahydrate".

HTH :nerd:

Ok, thanks. Now I have the info I need.
