Superb brake lights staying on

Featured Replies

Took the car to a new Skoda dealer and the only one I can go to without getting on a boat.

They said the the issue is faulty brake light switch which they have fitted but it has not rectified the issue.

What else could it be?  They have had my car for two weeks now.

Car electronics are far more complicated than they used to be.

Brake lights will pulse (flash fast) during emergency braking, the car will utilise other bulbs (tail lights, fog lights etc.) if the main brake light bulb fails.

Gone are the days stuck-on brake lights can only be attributed to a sticky / faulty switch.

The dealer should have plugged the car into their diagnostics machine which will likely have given them a fault code to direct them to the fault.

Either the fault is adversely affecting the ability of the car to properly report the fault, the dealer is attempting to fix the fault using the above flawed logic, the replacement part is also faulty or the most likely culprit; the exterior vehicle lighting's 'brains' (BCM module) is at fault.

A BCM is unlikely to be a stock item and is perhaps on backorder, especially at a more remote location such as the IOM.

I've found a quick call to Skoda UK's HQ tends to speed things up a bit...
