I Would Like To Carry Out An Oil Change On My Vehicle. I Am Only Familiar With The Metal Can Type Filters Fitted To Previously Owned Vehicles. Any Advice On The Procedure Would Be Appreciated. Is There Anything In Particular To Watch Out For To Avoid Problems?

Thanks In Advance

Regards

Derek.

on the vrs, its fitted in a plastic housin and is really easy to get to. just take the top off and there it is!

Yep; piece of p*ss, but put a rag around the casting to stop oil dripping on everthing as you lift out the wet old paper element filter

Top tip for the 1.2

You dont say if its a 12 or 6 valve but the procedure is the same. Undo the cap and unscrew a few turns and leave it. Drain the oil out (6mm allen key required for the sump bung), renew the copper washer on the plug when done. Then go back to the filter. The oil should have draine dout of the housing meaning it wont dribble al over the alternator when you remove it. Prise the element off the shaft with a screwdriver and slide on the new element, squeze it on until you hear a snap. Screw back in.

Fill up with 3.2 litres of oil and your done.

Handy info that... will bare it in mind according to what happens to 12volt if i get her back. Always nice to do things like oil etc. on your own car

Hi all,

one tip from experience. Loosen the plastic top until just about to be removed. Leave it so air will enter the filter holder and will allow the oil in the holder plus the excess oil in the element itself to drain back to the sump. do it before draining the sump itself. This will prevent a big gob of oil over the alternator!!

Charles
