ventilation/aircon climatronic system

Featured Replies

Hi, Has anyone here had or know of a problem with the ventilation/air con fan on the MK 2 Fabia? I am having a problem as it comes on and off sporadically, when turned on and seems to be more likely on with slightly higher engine revs then at idle although it does come on then sometimes too! I have the climatronic system fitted to my (09) Greenline.

It sometimes comes on and runs/sounds fine, other times comes on, sounds odd then slows and stops. Sometimes it won't go an at all for a while.

This happens whether the air-con is on or off (Econ mode) So it seems to make no real difference if i"m chilling or just venting the car. I am about to replace the cabin filter just for due course but I looked at it, shoook it out and refitted it as it was grubby but not to the extent of blocking the flow, I'd have thought.

Engine temp doesn't seem to be  a factor either although I wondered whether a sensor might be to blame. When malfunctioning, the whole of the illuminated display, all functions, flash on and off when turning on the key, for around eight seconds or so. This looks like it is self diagnosing or something, it then reverts back to normal (Auto) Setting illumination. I can override this flashing by pressing the econ button and then it goes back to normal display straight away.

I have also tried disconnecting the battery for ten mins to see if on reconnection, it re-sets itself.

Any insight to this dilemma would be gratefully received prior to my taking it back to the dealership to pay a sizeable lump of folding for diagnostics followed up by a weighty sum for repairs, not to forgot the good old inland revenues 20% on top!

Oh, forgot to mention,  No warning lights anywhere, only the ventilation system display flashing for a while, each time the ignition is turned on again.

Thanks. It can be noisy now and then but can sound normal too! Can blow fine, then slowly wind down to a halt like its been "dimmed" like a dimmer light, if you see what I mean. It can run, then just stop. It can fail to run, then just start again for a while and stop again. It seems to be intermittent by nature!

I did mention in the title of the post that its the climatronic version of a/c which is a lcd display, with automatic functionality.

It might be looking like my problem is actually the ventilation fanafter all. It will sometimes spring into life, but that is less and less likely now and sometimes slowly winds up a little then slows to a stop again during driving, sometimes when going over a bump. (Might be dodge connection). Does anyone know if the fan can be removed on these WITHOUT removing the whole dash? It is, as stated, the climatronic system so its not just a simple removal of the resistor via the airbag aperture. Can the fan be removed though, through there with the upper glovebox removed too?

Got my fan replaced now... Lovely and cool after having to have the dash removed, new fan fitted and all replaced, by Westside, in Woodford. (VAG specialists).

Flashing climatronic display is low gas I think. Of course that would have been checked anyway, how much did the replacement cost out of interest?

New fan, and labour... Deep breath... £530.

The flashing display is general fault, code was showing 4f9 if I remember correctly. Fan or blower motor fault! I think Skoda quoted me in excess of £300 just for the fan and it IS a dash-out job.
