Superskoda mk2 fl badgeless grill

Featured Replies

Hi

Just been looking at the grill as in the title. Have looked at some old posts, but can't find the info I am after. I am thinking about buying one of these grills and having the surround painted the same colour as my car. My question is, has anybody bought this grill for the fl Octavia and do you need to lacquer the fins of the grill to stop them fading from the sun. As you know, some plastics can fade over time if not painted or lacquered. Trying all sorts on my Octavia grill at the moment. I plastidipped the bling bling chrome, I like it better black. However, saw a post of an Octavia with the badgeless superskoda grill fitted and painted and I like it even more!

I have recently purchased the grill you are talking about from Superskoda. I am booked in to have it sprayed and fitted along with some other spray work my car needs on the 5th May. I am impressed with the quality of the grill and it appears to be as solid as the lower honeycomb grill already on the car which on mine seems to have faired pretty well and not faded too much. I think it will be the same as any black plastic trim and will require regular black treatment to stay at its best

When my honeycomb inner arrived it was scratched to death and had bits of plastic showing stretch marks, I've still got it in the garage because i couldn't be bothered to paint it and it would of cost a small fortune to send back. its a shame there isnt a company in the uk that actually sells stuff like this removing the hassle of large shipping costs.

My grill should arrive soon. I was going to have the surround painted the same colour as the car. Then when they clear lacquer the paint, they could lacquer the black plastic ribs on the grill as well. Not sure by doing that the ribs will be too shiny, but with them lacquered, it will stop them fading. Glad to hear the quality of the grill is good.

I've been thinking about one of these grills as well Put up some pics when you have got it painted and fitted!!

Okay will do. I have seen a photo of a honeycombe one fitted and painted on another members red car. My new one is similar to my old one, in that it has vertical fins. I want to keep the bonnet lever that pops out. Just search "superskoda grill" and it was one of the posts that came up.

I just found the pic of the red Octy you mention and that's the grill I have with the honeycomb. I must say it looks awesome on that car too especially with the lower splitter. I will post pics of mine when it's done

Well, I received the superskoda grill today. Ordered last Sunday and they informed me they had dispached it on the Monday. I know from some posts that members have had problems with superskoda, but so far in my experience the service is good. Just got to have it sprayed to match the colour of the car and then I fit it. Will update with photo when it all is done.

Urgent update.

Well guys, maybe I should have inspected the superskoda grill before my last post. I would advise anybody thinking about buying this grill to think twice. In daylight I could see a few imperfections, small dents and stress marks from the moulding process. It is cheap ABS plastic and according to 2 paint places, a bugger to paint. Very hard to tape ready for painting and one expert states that with this type of plastic, one chip and the paint could easily flake off around the chip. I have contacted superskoda and they have agreed a refund when they receive the grill back.

I am now going to find a second hand original grill and have it painted the colour of my car to get rid of the bright chrome. I wanted to use the superskoda grill to get rid of all the front badges, but am now going to stick with the badges on a colour coded grill. I knew I should have taken the advice of tubbytommy.

at least you got a refund.

i was advised by pro painters that cheap plastic doesnt paint very well and they probably wouldnt even consider the job due to potential trouble.

my grill looks oem and onl cost £40 for the paint job which is now 12 months old and apart from the odd stone chip still looks great.

Thanks for the update.

Hi tubbytommy

Yes I should have listened to you mate. Getting my money back, but just looked into postage and it will cost at least £30. Oh well, I will have to write off the postage cost.

Have you tried www.parcel2go.com for a postage quote?

Cheers dilksie, that came in useful to get the best quote. My Hermes it is then.

My mate painted mine they are quite difficult , as even though it's been etched/primed and lacquered they do chip easily!

To be honest it's more of the state of roads and and where you do most of your driving than the paint ,as my bonnets collecting a few chips also !

i know myhermes tend to have promotional codes for first time users, i tend to send all my stuff with them and havent had any issues yet, I wish superskoda would advertise there products better as i ended up just keeping my honeycomb grill because of the same reasons you mentioned.

Have used myhermes once before, so no promotion code. Sent it back now with them, it cost me £20. Never thought superskoda would sell a grill that is really crap. Have put the word out with a couple of find a part companys, but as yet no second hand original grills have been offered. Just have to wait and see, but I certainly would not put that superskoda grill on my car. Must admit, the grill looked good in their sales photos though. Yes conned again!
