Oil pressure, limp mode...and odd warning lights

Featured Replies

Ladies, Gents,

An odd and repeated situation. A week ago the car felt like it had hit a bump in the road as the engine coughed once, the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree, then just the glowplug warning light stayed on...and ACC showed an error. And limp mode, never experienced before, very odd. When I stopped and started again it corrected itself, but nonetheless went to the dealer who could see an oil pressure sensor warning had caused the issue...aned cleared the error with a 'let us know if it happens again and we'll get a new sensor'.

It has, several times. Indeed it's repeatable at one place (traffic lights near home, slight uphill pull away and the christmas tree dash is followed by error and limp mode.) So back to the garage, and they've cleared the error (well, had...it's happened again since) and ordered a sensor.

Several questions - why if it's an oil sensor is the glow plug lamp and the ACC error message coming up - and nothing to do with oil. Why can I repeat it. The car was serviced for the first time last month (300 miles ago) - is it possible the oil level is a bit lower than before, the slight incline at this place drops the oil level in whatever part of the engine the sensor is in and causes the error? I've checked the oil level and it seems fine - but already very black for only a couple of hundred miles.

Thoughts, my learned friends?

I had the same. Acc and brake assist errors as well because it disables these systems when going into limp home mode. I called skoda, they sent a tech to my house who replaced the switch in 20 mins and been fine since (2000 miles ago).

i can't believe they didn't do that on yours but just cleared the error. The parts only about a tenner and if the skoda tech carries one in his van I'd assume the dealer has them in stock.

Previous car was a Toyota Avensis, only ever had one problem in 80k miles. Set off from traffic lights on the way to work one morning and the dash lit up along with a warning to Check the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) and to check the Parking Brake. The car stuttered but then cleared and drove fine but the VSC and EPB warnings stayed on.

Turned out to be one of the ignition coils…. What on earth has that got to do with the VSC and the EPB?

I appreciate that this doesn’t help you but I’m trying to make the point that these warning lights/messages can be very misleading.

Not much I can add to the above. Just to say it's pretty normal for diesel oil to be black within a couple of minutes of changing it. They're just carbon heavy engines, and hence the oil will be commensurately high in additives. Don't worry about it (and always check the level when the oil is hot, after giving it two minutes to drain back to the sump).

@Brockysuperb Pulling up an old post here! What was the eventual solution to your issue? I appear to be having similar problems in my Superb  Mk3

I took it back to the garage, the oil was a bit low, but it also needed a software update (I recall, it's been several years). It solved the issue.
