Many Light Related Questions

Featured Replies

Howdy Folks,

A long time Lurker here, and I've got many questions about lights.  I've got a Mk2 FL with xenons and without a maxidot.

1)  I'm headed to europe soon, and I understand the xenons can tilt accordingly.  How can I do this, bearing in mind my car wasn't fitted with a maxidot?

2) Cornering fog lights/Daylight Running Lights,  can these be activated without going to a dealer /VagCom?

3)  Auto Lights.  My car has auto wipers  and I understand to enable auto lights, I would need to run a wire,  and code the ECU to accept it.  Has anyone had luck with kits like this one ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chrome-Headlight-Switch-AUTO-Headlight-Sensor-For-VW-Jetta-Golf-MK5-Passat-B6-/152150696759?hash=item236ce36337:g:SUEAAOSwzJ5Xdexn ) on the MK2?

Thanks,
Ant

1) Dealer only without maxidot, watch out, they may try and charge you. A better option is VCDS.

2) Cornering fogs and DRL will need VCDS, most dealers will probably refuse claiming it's impossible.

3) As you have a RLS, do it properly with a new switch and wire as you'll also get coming home/leaving home working properly. That switch is also the wrong shape (round not oval) for your Octavia.

You should find a local VCDS user as they'll be able to do points 1 and 2 in 10-15 minutes including before/after autoscans.

There is a chap round me that's about to try adding an auto light switch to a car with a RLS so I'll confirm that all works when he's done. Should only be 30-40 minutes to add the wire and replace the switch :)
