Just back from Jabba

Featured Replies

Had a long day driving from Manchester to Peterborough and back again, with a fellow Briskodian Phill to get the Superb remapped today.

After a few hours (best fish and chips in the world served in cafe in village nearby, then back to Jabba for nervous pacing and fending off Phill's attempts to get me to shell out for some Eibachs whilst there) she's now running at 193bhp and 421Nm torque. Virtually no smoke, either.

The best bit is it's a couple of horses up on Phill's Furbie VRS :D

The car's killer now: not at all harsh, just oodles of torque on tap. You don't have to bother changing out of 5th to kill just about anything on the motorway, either.

The best 400 quid I've ever spent, I think....and mpg's slightly improved to 50mpg on the way back!

Will post dino plots when I can find a scanner...

Good day was had

Still gutted your turbo is bigger than mine :D

hahahahaa, size isn't important, mate, honest haahahahahahhaahh

412Nm

That must be fun to drive :D Just watch out for the front tyres ;)

They go very well when remapped don't they :D

How much is your Superb pushing out Rob?

How much is your Superb pushing out Rob?

Not sure yet, just waiting for a rolling road day to come up :D but it is more than the 175.5 the Dragon tuning box was putting out......all I need is lots of super glue on the front tyres ...they spin in first, second and third gear  the orange light on the dash is going to get fed up keep coming on like that

Very good.

Just giving out a pre-emptive :finger: incase you beat any of my times on Colin McRae III.

Whats all this about a bigger turbo

you'd think a pd130 lump was a pd130 lump, wouldn't you. apparently not: according to mike, who seems to be a guru of such things, the superb is fitted with a different and slightly larger turbo than the fabia vrs. think there's bugger all in it, to be honest, but it explains why i got a few more horses and it doesn't smoke: it's not pushed quite as hard as a fabia remap...

here we go: dynoplot from jabba.

Fabia platform is fitted wit ha KKK turbo. The Superb I assume is fitted with a Garrett like the octy/golf platform.

I really like the sound of this extra power!!

Have you informed your insurance company and what was the premium increase? Also how is the power applied through the range, I mean is it smooth or do you feel that it's pulling better in some gears than others?

I thought Jabba had changed their dyno plot to look like mine below? Unless they're running the two in tandem.

dunno: i know they've got two rolling roads, but other than that, no idea!

baker21, it's well worth doing. moving insurers from greenlight to chris knott, it didn't increase my premium declaring it. very smooth in all gears, feels like it's been designed that way. it's not so much of the "waaAAAAA!" of the remapped fabias, it's a bit more subtle as the superb's heavier. it just accelerates away very quickly indeed in all gears with no fuss at all - like a train. so long as you're above about 2k revs, it'll just shift. i'd really, really recommend it.

J,

your plot's off the new rr.

Oh right. I didn't go downstairs during my 8 hours there. I spent all my time stuck on the telly. :D I only heard my car revving up at times, that was about it.

Assumed they'd got rid of one set and installed a new set, but I guess if they have two people who can remap it makes economies of scale sense to be able to do two cars at once. :)

Just as well they had 2 it wouldnt fit on the first one! :P

Got to admit a remap really suits the superb ...it just feels like being on the end of a big elastic band........you just sink further and further back in your seat......and it has got faster as time has gone by :D

agreed: mine's getting quicker and quicker. reckon 30-50 takes roughly 3 secs now, and at 80mph it's at peak torque in top. faster than *pretty much anything* I've ever tried it against *huge grin*

I really like the sound of this, I need to be taken for a test drive to see whether my Superb needs to have a remap investment!! Hint, hint!! LOL!!

well, if you're up near manchester ever give me a shout and i'll take you out in mine. it's bloody great. 50-70 in about the same time, too: you just put your foot down, give it half a sec for the turbo to lag and it's like a huge rubber band's pulling you smoothly past everything else on the motorway.

you don't even need to change down - on tap from 2600rpm right the way up to 4500rpm, it's a big, flat, b@stard of a torque plateau...

my favourite trick with beemers that assume you should get out of their way is pretending not to notice them, and with one arm laid casually along the window, pressing the loud pedal and quietly leaving them wondering "what the Fxxxx?".

it really, really suits the superb -you won't regret it and i guarantee a drive in a remapped car will make you want to do it to yours...half as much torque again as a porsche boxster s...!

...i work near lougborough sometimes, too, which is a bit closer to you i reckon?

I quite fancy having a remap done myself, however does anyone know the long term effects of this tuning with regard to the life of crankshafts, con rods, and especially clutches and gearboxes. My concerns are that any manufacturer will build in a degree of over engineering and with CAD manufacturing this is possible. It can be seen in formula one, where an engine is built for qualifying with a lot more power than a full race engine, because of this it would not last a whole race, and is changed. To a degree, this is true of modern day car engines, it is not uncommon to find car engines having done 250/300k miles. Years ago car engines in general, where worn out long before that mileage. So, even allowing for the modern built in "over engineering" and technological advances, we have a 1.9 litre turbo diesel engine developing approx 130 bhp in standard form, some tuning places can offer modest increases in power (approx 30%) and torque, for example www.tuningbox.com. What we have is a full remap offering just over 48% increase in power, whilst i think this is tremendous and very well done to the firms concerned, i cannot see how any manufacturer can build in this tolerance for tuning ? The VW Golf was offered with varying power outputs, my understanding that the 150bhp TDI`s engine (unit injector, code ARL) was made of different parts to the 68/90/100 bhp non unit injector, i would assume more robust ones to deal with the extra power. If the manufacturer feels it necessary to uprate the engine for an increase of 50 bhp how do we go on with 63bhp increases ? I owned a Vauxhall Omega 2.5TD with a box fitted and it really made a difference, so it`s not as if i`m against tuning TD`s, far from it, my concerns are that we may drastically reduce the life of our new motors by increasing the power and torque way beyond the engine designers brief. Any one else at all concerned, or do any remap firms care to offer an insight !! :)
