Rutland Water

Featured Replies

Went out to Rutland Water yesterday - me, my mate and 3x 11 year olds.

We parked at Normanton, just the other side of Edith Weston, and where there are suitable facilities inc toilets, cafe and a bike shop. Once the bikes were off the car, we thought it best to head towards Manton as going towards (and over) the dam isn't as interesting. It's a mixture of gravel tracks running alongside the reservoir, plus some tarmac sections alongside the road. Stopped at The Horse & Jockey for a break and drinks before turning round and heading back the same way. Total ride was about 9 miles.

Here's a copy of route from Endomondo:

Car parking was £3.50 upto 3 hours, over 3 hours is £6.

The full route around Rutland Water is 23 miles including the peninsula. 17 miles without. Here's a full map of the reservoir.

Its a lovely bike ride around there.

Nice and safe for the kids too.

I haven't been to Rutland water for around 20 years, it's lovely around there. Might have to nip down one day for a ride

I did Rutland water (whole circuit) in my much younger days.

Getting back into mountain biking so may take a trip there over the summer with my bike.

Love Rutland and regularly do the whole circuit of 22.5 miles on my mtb. Always stop at the horse and jockey for a half way pint too! Always park on the dead end road by the barns dale hall hotel as it's free if you can get a space, then head off round the reservoir in a clockwise direction.

Did this a few years back stopping at the pub on the island for lunch  big gang of us

Remember the last bit across the dam was very tiring but did it

Just bought a pedal assist bike so may go round again at some point

Problem with the dam is no matter what, it's always bloody windy on there!
