New rear calipers and pads

Featured Replies

When I'd my car in for an oil and filter change last week Andy the boss on checking it over mentioned that I'd need to get new pads fitted on the rear shortly so it was booked in today only to find out the calipers are seized and need replaced ... still as the first major bill in almost 2 years of ownership I guess I can't complain to much ... My previous cars, all Citroen, cost a fortune virtually from day one.. just on my way to collect it and see how much the bill is.

Thank you ... I'm not even sure what it said as I was typing on my phone whilst getting myself together waiting on a taxi ....

The final bill was £290 for everything supplied and fitted....

For my car i also had seized calipers, but this is not a necessity to change them in the first place. It is a cheap fix, by removing the old piston, cleaning the caliper, and inserting new replacement piston with new kit of seals. This Would cost maybe 30 to 40 £ in parts + work

The workshop guys just doesn't want to do the dirty work and instead install new shiny parts.

Hi Tilt, it was £290 for both calipers to be replaced along with new pads

Not too bad then including new parts, fluid change and labour, rot etc.

As Isit mentioned, you could have done it way cheaper yourself with the correct parts, tools and knowledge, but I suspect you wouldn't want the hassle anyway, and it is certainly not worth the hassle to the workshop.

Hi Tilt,

At one time I'd have had a go at doing the job, I've replaced front and read pads in the past, even rear brake shoes, and has a go at cleaning up a caliper and fitting new seals but sadly with my arthritic hands it would take me all my time to Jack the car up to change a wheel these days.
