Yeti production stops!

Featured Replies

Skoda are stopping production of the Yeti!!

WHAT???? And why??????

Gutted and hugely disappointed.

Market forces means they have to make a clone that looks like all the other suv's!

Hence the new Karoq which has just been revealed.

To be expected, given the replacement in the shape of the Karoq. No new factory orders are now being accepted, so they'll work through the remaining order book.

Not sure what you expected to happen really. It's the same process as any manufacturer would follow, when a model reaches end of life.

Has it reached end of life though?

And ok it may need a re-vamp, but why a whole new name as well? They haven't done that for the Fabia or Octavia...

I wouldn't say so, sales increased every year until last year. I've had mine little over a week now and had 3 people ask me what it is. A 7 year old model that's stopping production and people don't know what it is! Therein lies the problem. Marketing. Perhaps they didn't know who to market it to?

It doesn't look much like the Yeti, is bigger and the new Skoda policy is for its Suv's to all have names starting with K.

On the other hand the hit on Yeti second hand value should be a lot less as no direct replacement. E.g. Original Yeti and first facelift has a significant step up on value despite registering at virtually the same time.

Plenty new, demonstrators or nearly new on offer so anyone wanting to buy one that will be a keeper really has no problems in getting one.

Yes, from a manufacturer perspective. It was unveiled in 2009.

The new name is part of a strategy, to name their SUV type vehicles starting with a K and ending with a Q.

The Fabia and Octavia names clearly remain in-keeping with the strategy for those segments. There's never any guarantee a model name will last for ever. Ford Escort to Focus being a great example.

One of my neighbours who has Discovery Sports and Evoques etc. said my Yeti was ugly! :(  Perhaps others who are looking for an SUV think likewise?

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that - those two JLR products are hardly oil paintings.... in my opinion of course!

It's just predjucice.

My sister would never buy a Skoda on principle due the her preconceptions

Brand snob ?

Personally I think the Evoque is one of the ugliest cars out there.  Given any choice with no cost barred it wouldn't even be on the bottom of my list.

I hate Evoques!!

I guess I just love my Yeti. Never been one to take so well to change, so I'll miss it...that's all

?

Is it going someplace?

It has reached the end of its natural life because it is built on an obsolete platform.  The platform dictates the tech and more importantly is a means of spreading development costs across the whole VAG group.  You can see the struggle Skoda had to 'lash up' a means for Adblue to be incorporated in the newest diesels.

The cost of building anything redically different on the same platform as the Ateca would have been prohibitively expensive for a 'cheap' model in its sector.

I've never liked the Evoque but I quite like the Discovery Sport.

Trouble is with the headquarters/design centre etc. not far away we are overrun with them in the Warwick area!

The number of brand new Jaguars and LR's you see outside even quite modest houses is amazing!

Can't blame the employees though.
