At the dealer now for the first service on my 16 plate vRS.

15,500 miles and just a year old.

Have a rattle at the top of the dash, in the middle, seems to be from the grille there but I haven't taken anything apart. Occurs between 2-2700rpm. Also a droning from front n/s wheel, almost certainly a bearing. (I've put different wheels on and it's the same, increases with speed and worse on bends.) The bearing is likely to be covered okay it seems.

Anyway, apparently rattles must be reported within 6 months or 6,000 miles to be diagnosed free?! Otherwise, it's  £90

This has been present since new, but not bad enough to make the 1 hour trip to my nearest dealer, so I left it until my 1st service. I mentioned the commonly reported fuel line issue that several on here have had fixed, and was told "Oh that's only on the Fabias" :dull:

It seems the fuel lines are nowhere near the dash/ bulkhead anyway so not likely to be that.

But really, 6 months or 6000 miles, where does it say that anywhere in the handbook or on Skoda's website? Is this a fob off because I didn't buy the car from this dealer I wonder, or can they just not be arsed?

Something in the back of my head does recall there being a limit on rattle warranty claims.

On another note, 1st service at c.15k miles? Is that the variable regeim you're on?

Variable yes, but I guess it's because a year is up rather than mileage.

Sounds like dealer BS to me.  The motoring trade are SO variable, and Skoda dealers are no exception.

I'm buying second hand next week from a dealer 3 hours from me.  I suspect already that the fact he may not see me again is playing a strong role in affecting his level of customer service. We'll see on Monday when I pick up.

pistonbroke, don't put up with it. A warranty is a warranty, no matter which dealer you go to. How can they have a limit on rattles - a rattle could suddenly start at 30 months' of ownership for example!

Good luck getting it sorted!

if you have a choice of dealer to take your car to, I would mention to the dealer that how they deal with this issue will influence where you take your business too.

Having just scoured the warranty booklet recently, there is an initial snagging period quoted (as you've been told); after this the "Sorry, that's down to fair wear and tear" stance is adopted.

I only looked because my coolant is low and after 2 months and 3k miles I shouldn't have to fork out for it, regardless of how much it costs.  Must say I'm totally unimpressed with my supplying dealer, they won't be getting my business ever again.

The T&C's and exclusions do not allow Dealerships to just take the pith if there are Manufacturing / Workman/woman / Quality Control issues from the factory.

See 6 months / 6,500 miles & adjustments, but as for screws rattling in a dash etc because some were lost in manufacturing then that is a Warranty Issue, or some other defects in manufacturing.

Yet another example of manufacturer and dealers ensuring they get no repeat customers. The 6 month snagged for rattles and squeaks is ridiculous, if they built it right in the first place it wouldn't need any fixing. My Mk2 Octavia rattled and creaked more the 10 year old Mondeo it replaced. The lack of build quality and the worst dealers I've ever witnessed and it ended up being one of the shortest periods of time I've kept a car.

I would adopt Awayoffski attitude in that it is warranty claim if they had built it correctly then it wouldn't rattle. It's not like it's something that you have contact with and could wear, it's an integral part of the car. If that doesn't work sell the car and take your custom elsewhere.

Thanks @penguin17 - they came good in the end!  :)

Rattle was apparently a screenwash pipe and heated washer jet cable that had come loose/not been secured properly, under the scuttle panel.

Seems to be fixed now, yay!

No charge for this at all, and have to say I was well looked after, bacon butties whilst waiting and all!

The wheel bearing noise was difficult to hear due to poor surfaces and tyre roar on the test drive with the tech, but he acknowledged it and suggested waiting until it gets worse before claiming under warranty and I'm happy enough with this.

Just a heads up though people - if you do have rattles when almost new, at least report them before 6 months/6,000 miles, even if you can't get to the dealer.

Make sure this is recorded on your service paperwork.
